How Many Games to Calibrate Dota 2
If you’re the kind of gamer who wants to jump straight into ranked mode and play competitively, Dota 2 is probably not the game for for you. With so many things for new players to learn, Valve makes sure you’re committed before letting you into ranked play.

How many games to calibrate Dota 2?
Unfortunately, there’s no real straight forward answer here. You don’t play a set number of games but more a certain number of hours.
- You can’t calibrate your Dota 2 rank until you’ve played 100 hours of the game.
You can’t game the system by just having the home screen open either. You’ll have to be actively in the lobby in order for the time to count. Similarly, remember that bot games don’t count towards your calibration time.
Once you hit 100 hours, you’ll then have to get your rank confidence percentage to 30% to find out your MMR and rank. Whenever you win a ranked game, you’ll gain 2% confidence and if you lose, you’ll gain 1% confidence. It does take quite a long time to play 15-30 games but this is the best way to get the most accurate rank.

If you come back to Dota after some time, or even if you feel like your rank isn’t quite right, you can choose to recalibrate.
- Go into the game and select the cog in the top left of the screen
- Go to the account tab
- Locate the “recalibrate” button. Once you do, there’s no going back!
- Play a game in ranked mode to begin the process over
The good news is that most people who struggle to make it out of their current rank do increase their MMR when recalibrating. But you can’t just recalibrate over and over to get the rank you want either. You’ll only be able to activate recalibration once per year.
