Underlord Abilities Explained

Firestorm

Calls down 6 waves of fire at 1 second intervals that damage all enemy units in a 400 radius area. Each wave deals 25/40/55/70 magical damage plus 1%/2%/3%/4% of the target’s maximum health. The burn duration is 2 seconds.

Pit of Malice

Creates a deadly pit that lasts for 12 seconds and covers a 375 radius area. Enemy units trapped inside are rooted for 0.9/1.2/1.5/1.8 seconds every 3.6 seconds.

Atrophy Aura

Reduces enemy attack damage by 7%/18%/29%/40% and offers you bonus damage every time an enemy unit dies nearby (900 radius). The attack bonus is 30/35/40/45 for each hero death and 5 for each non-hero death. The duration of the bonus is 30/40/50/60 seconds.

Dark Rift

After a 6/5/4 seconds delay, teleports you and all nearby allied heroes (600 radius) to your own Fountain (if you double tap the ability) or to a friendly unit on the map. If you die or if the target unit dies, the teleportation is canceled. You can also cancel it yourself whenever you want. You can really save your team in some clutch situations during your Dota 2 esports games.

What Talents to Choose on Underlord

  • +30 movement speed / +18 Firestorm wave damage – The second option is always better.
  • +15 Atrophy attack damage bonus from hero deaths / +100 cast range – The cast range is much more valuable than the Atrophy damage bonus.
  • +20 HP regeneration / +70 attack speed – Your HP regeneration will be excellent at this point of the game, but if you want to tank as much damage as possible during fights, you should still take the first talent. However, if your item build is more damage oriented, definitely take the attack speed bonus.
  • 25% Firestorm building damage / +0.8s Pit of Malice root – The second talent is almost always better.

Skill build order

When playing Underlord, you generally start with a point in Atrophy Aura followed by two points in Firestorm and then one in Pit of Malice. At level 9 your skill build should be 4-1-4-0. You skill your ultimate only at level 11 on this hero, focusing on your other spells and taking talents whenever they are available.

When to pick the hero

Underlord is a great pick whenever you need to limit the enemy lineup’s physical damage and put a lot of pressure on their safe lane during the laning stage. The Pit of Malice root is also extremely good when fighting against heroes with too much or too little mobility.

Tanky Offlaner for Any Team Comp

Underlord is a tanky hero that can farm really fast and spend his gold on items that help his entire team. These reasons combined with the ones already mentioned above make him an excellent choice for the offlane role.
