Thanks to licensing issues, the EA Sports staple doesn’t have access to the sports association’s name. FIFA (the company, not the game) leased out their name to EA for usage in its football series. Losing access to the FIFA name was expected to be a huge blow to fans of the series. FIFA and, as a result, many of the team names that come along with it are a huge part of what helped it stand out against competitor Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) to become the sole pillar of eFootball.
It wasn’t called FIFA when it released, but FIFA 24 released 29th September 2023 as “EA FC 2024”.
Luckily, the engrained player base would not drop off once the brand name disappeared, largely due to the in game teams still maintaining their iconic team names. People are wanting to play as Arsenal, Manchester City and PSG. Nobody is interested in playing as London Red and Manchester Blue, even if the players on the teams are the same as before.

Despite a near 2 year absence from the digital scene, FIFA in brand name is returning to gaming and you can climb the FIFA ranks all over again. Under publisher 2K, the same umbrella responsible for the NBA titles, FIFA is rumored to return as “FIFA 2K25”. At the time of writing, there’s been no official word on the validity of these claims, however 2K’s track record with licensed sports games is a solid one.
The basketball titles sell incredibly well every single year, following the live games as service model despite being a yearly release.
After launching back in September 2023, the game received more success than EA’s previous online football title and has maintained a stable player base. It had the up to date roster for all major leagues at the time of release. And of course released with improved gameplay, and even better graphics.
FIFA 24 promises new features and tweaks to keep the game fresh and fun.
