What’s the Best Street Fighter Game?

When it comes to the Street Fighter series, it’s had some mixed reception. Games like Street Fighter III have had problems on release, but that and even SF V managed to grow a dedicated fan base over time. Then, there are titles like 6 which have launched to complete acclaim and shot right up the list. Looking at all the titles in the series, there are two key games which we could say are the best Street Fighter game, depending on if you want the best experience or the Street Fighter game that defined the series.

Street Fighter 6

Street Fighter 6 might be the most recent game in the series but its arguably the best Street Fighter game. It’s a title which pushes the franchises into completely new ground, really feeling like the ultimate Street Fighter experience.

The core fighting mechanics of 6 are incredibly polished and that’s been kept up with SF 6 patch notes. The game is well-balanced and its core gameplay is both fun on a more casual level and is working great for competitive fighting game tournaments so far.

On top of the base-level fighting being fantastic, there’s a whole world inside the game. There’s much more out there for you to do in the game than just versus matches, with World Tour and the best online we’ve ever had.

As a modern experience, Street Fighter 6 is the best Street Fighter game. Although, if you’re looking at the foundations of the series there’s another game which is worth mentioning too.

Runner Up – Street Fighter II

Best Fighting Games of All Time

Source: Capcom

Street Fighter II was one of the most ground breaking fighting games of all time. It’s even still played at esports events and it’s easy to see why. The game might not have been the first but it’s the one that made the genre what it is.

Every Street Fighter (and most fighting games) since this title was essentially building on what this one did. The title has the core combat which still feels great today. It can be taken up to the highest skill level. II might not have the crazy variety of things to do like 6. However, that core fighting is arguably perfect here.

Games in the series since might have outdone it. Although, Street Fighter II’s innovations on the fighter mean it definitely deserves a mention when discussing what is the best Street Fighter game.

Street Fighter 6 might be our pick for the best Street Fighter game, but the entire series is full of gems. Most of the games released warrant going back to. This isn’t a franchise which re-steps the same ground every few years. The whole catalogue stands up surprisingly well.
