What to Expect at EVO 2024 – Games, Schedule, and More
After a year of build-up, we’re finally about to reach the highlight of the year for fighting game esports, EVO 2024. This year the tournament is bigger than ever. Over July 19-21, we’ll see players competing in all the major fighters, to find new Champions.
This year EVO will be home to a good number of first tournaments for games. While releases like SF 6 got tried out last year, we’ve seen loads of new games released since EVO 2023. It’ll be our first tournament for Tekken 8, Mortal Kombat 1, Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, and even more. Tons of the best fighting games are getting their first outings.
Elsewhere at the tournament, big sponsors are returning again. Like Chipotle, back for its second consecutive year. The convention itself is boasting a more open layout this year too, with attractions outside of the tournaments like an Art Gallery and Museum! It’s the head-to-head fighting tournaments that are the main event though. How will everything work at EVO 2024?

The EVO series of tournaments are the biggest Western events in fighting games. Now owned by Sony, the tournament series is a mecca of fighters. Over just three days July 19-21st, we’ll see a pools rounds for each of the featured games followed by a Double elimination bracket to find our winners. Each EVO features two types of tournaments.
There are the main stage events, the biggest fighting game tournaments with the largest prize pools. However, there are also community showcase events. This is where newer or older titles live, games that might not have the largest following right now but it’s still fun to see it played at a high level. The games at EVO are always the most exciting factor. What’s our line-up this year?
Main Tournaments
- Street Fighter 6
- Tekken 8
- Guilty Gear Strive
- Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising
- Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
- Under Night In-Birth II Sys:Celes
- Mortal Kombat 1
- King of Fighters XV

The main stage is where we see the biggest games, Smash Bros aside. We’ve got all of the big hitters here. There’s the trifecta of big three fighters, SF, Tekken, and MK. There’s also Guilty Gear, which never seems to lessen in interest, and newer Arc games like Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising.
A more surprising inclusion on the mainstage in SF III. It’s undoubtedly one of the best fighters of all time, but seeing such a retro pick on the mainstage will be fun.
Community Games
These are the community titles that are being highlighted at evo this year:
- Dragon Ball FighterZ
- Blazblue Central Fiction
- BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle
- Capcom Vs SNK 2
- DNF Duel
- Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2
- Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R
- Killer Instinct
- Marvel V Capcom 2
- Melty Blood Type Lumina
- Samurai Shodown
- Skullgirls 2nd Encore
- Soulcalibur VI
- Street Fighter V Champion Edition
- Street Fighter II Turbo
- Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3
- Ultra Street Fighter IV
- Vampire Savior
Those are the smaller titles getting played at EVO 2024. The big omission so far might be the platform fighters, no Brawlhalla or MultiVersus tournaments. Across all these games there’s definitely something for everyone though.

The Road to EVO 2024
We’re coming up on possibly the biggest in competitive fighting game events this year, EVO 2024. The event will see the largest western tournaments for all the major titles, but EVO 2024 will also show off some smaller games with a devoted following. The tournament is held this summer, and registration has been interesting so far. It’s even gotten so high that it’s broken a record.
Looking at early registration numbers is a great sign of how each game is doing lately. Street Fighter 6 has pretty much dominated sign-ups since the game came out. Lately, Tekken has been attracting a lot of attention too though. The allure of the Tekken World Tour this year has meant even more players are joining up. Not mention a second round of the Capcom Cup for SF 6.
The early registration numbers for EVO 2024 have been a particularly interesting batch. In total, it seems the total numbers of attendees have already passed what we saw the year before.

What’s the Most Popular Game at EVO 2024?
The EVO 2024 Registration numbers have just been released! We’ve known for a while that this is going to be a record-breaking event, with it having the most competitors of any esports tournament. What’s interesting is how it weighs out between the different games though. Which titles are leading the pack?
No surprise in the leader here, it’s Street Fighter 6. Lots of players want to take part in this year’s Capcom Cup. Next up we have Tekken 8. Another title that’s recently released and seeing tons of attention from players. Third is a little more surprising, Guilty Gear Strive. This title just doesn’t see to go away, it’ll be topping EVO registrations for years to come.

After that, we have a few more surprises. One that’s particularly shocking is Mortal Kombat 1. It’s a new release in the big three fighters, but it’s sat at just over 600. Under Night IN-Birth II has had a decent showing too. SF 3 is another major surprise, getting more than 1 ,000 sign ups this far from its release!
Clearly a few titles are leading EVO 2024. It’s interesting to see that most games across the board have increased numbers this year though.
EVO 2024 Breaks Record
EVO 2024 has just broken a new record, it’s officially the largest esports event in terms of participation. We’ve already seen EVO 2024 registration numbers get particularly high. However, it’s now clear participation is going much further than we thought. The tournament will officially have the largest participation out of all esports events we’ve seen in the past.
How has EVO managed to hit this new record? A big part of it is down to the nature of EVO. As the mecca of fighting games, it offers tons of different titles. With new fighting game releases bringing attention to so many different games, each is getting tons of registrations for 2024.
EVO 2024 Registrations
EVO 2024 registrations have been open for a while and there are only days left to get your names in and take part. Organizers have begun releasing snipes of information about how the registration weighs out too. For a start, this event has already gone past EVO 2023’s sign-ups!
EVO has grown year on year, and 2024 is going to be bigger than 2023. That year was already over the line in setting registration records, which has been broke again.

We’re not sure just yet what titles have the most sign ups though. This time that is in being held back until closer to the time. In terms being out ahead, Street Fighter 6 feels like the safest bet right now. Although, Tekken 8 will probably be pretty far ahead too. Out of those, anime fighting games like GGS tend to do well, and Mortal Kombat 1 will still be pretty new when the event takes place.
