EVO Japan Warm Ups

Sony has announced a cluster of online tournaments taking place in the run-up to EVO Japan this year. These new additions expand the tournament series, giving players at home a chance to get involved too.

These tournaments aren’t going to be majors, all happening in person with live streams. Since EVO is now played all on PlayStation, they’re hosting everything online. There will be three tournaments for three of the biggest games at EVO Japan 2024. The games featured will be Guilty Gear Strive, Tekken 8, and King of Fighters.

This batch doesn’t include the most registered event at the tournament, Street Fighter 6. However, Tekken 8 at EVO Japan 2024 has already broken the franchise’s sign-up record, this warm up will probably prove popular too.

All three tournaments are going to be running online in the days leading up to EVO Japan. They’ll conclude before April 28th. In terms of prizes, there isn’t the large cash prize we’ll see at EVO Japan. Instead, the top price is a free subscription to PlayStation’s online service. There are also other virtual goodies up for grabs like PSN avatars.

These EVO Japan warm ups aren’t going to overshadow the main event, they’re more a bit of fun for fans. There’s still a chance for more competitions in some of the best fighting games though. Events like this help to encourage competitive play at all levels of fighting games. They’ll be a nice prelude to watching the very best players compete at EVO Japan 2024.
