The Red Bull Kumite is making a comeback in just a few short weeks. The iconic competition has just announced it’ll be returning to coincide with the release of Street Fighter 6. Red Bull Kumite Street Fighter will be one of the first opportunities to see pros competing in the latest game in the series. Here, the top 16 players have the chance to set the stage for the next generation of Street Fighter esports by picking up the first major win.

We’ve just learnt a bit more about this early tournament too. The first batch of players taking part in Red Bull Kumite Street Fighter has been unveiled.

The first batch of players is pretty international in where they’re pulling from. There’s Tokido from Japan, players from America, and more. It’s an impressive roster too with legends in the game like Justin Wong. It might be early in SF 6, but it looks like we’re getting the top players in the game at this tournament.

Red Bull Kumite Street Fighter Returning for SF 6

Red Bull Kumite Street Fighter is making a comeback in June. The tournament will be a two-day event, taking place over June 1-2. 16 top players have been invited to take part in as the inaugural Street Fighter 6 pro event. Organizers are promising one of the biggest-ever esports events to take place in Africa.

The tournament is pulling out some unusual stops in the way of showmanship. Competitors are having a cage match. They’ll be locked in until a single winner is found out of the 16 competitors. The cage will be watched by a crowd of 1,000 at the University Pretoria.

The tournament isn’t just a competition for bragging rights though, there’s a large prize pool here too. There will be €50,000 at stake in total.

Out of the 16, 15 players have invites directly. While Street Fighter 6 is new, it’s based on their performance at past fighting game esports events. The final player, however, is coming up through a Last Chance qualifier. Most of the invited players are still a mystery right now! We’ll see the rest of the players announced over the rest of May.

It’s an exciting time for Street Fighter and the Red Bull Kumite Street Fighter tournament is going to be a highlight of the game’s early release. With EVO and more on the horizon too, Street Fighter 6 is releasing right into the thick of it with tournaments. These early results will have it all to play for as competitors test the limits of Capcom’s latest fighter.
