Samurai Shodown Rollback Netcode Update Gets Beta test
Samurai Shodown has been building up for a little while now, setting the stage for one of its biggest updates. A Samurai Shodown rollback netcode update is coming. Although, the update hasn’t had the smoothest progression to release. We recently learnt there was a delay coming for the Samurai Shodown Rollback netcode. However, it’s not all bad news. We’ve just learned that the game will be getting a new beta for the matchmaking update, so players can try it out a bit early.

The Samurai Shodown rollback netcode update was initially announced in August. The title still has a loyal following and gets play at events like Lunar Bout. However, as a more niche title updates like this definitely feel like a treat. Getting rollback netcode particularly adds a lot to the game’s replayability.
The new update has suffered a bit of a delay recently. It originally had a September release date, but that’s had to get pushed back. We will get a chance to play Samurai Shodown Rollback netcode update in some way during Autumn though. Ahead of its final release, we’re getting an early Beta to test it out.
SNK will be running the Samurai Shodown rollback netcode beta indefinitely from October 12th. This will only be running on Steam, but will last until they find the improvements that they’re looking for. While we don’t have a firm full release date yet, it’s great to try out the new update to Samurai Shodown.
Rollback Originally Announced for Samurai Shodown
2023 has been a huge year for fighting games, we’ve seen major new releases like Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1, plus titles like Tekken 8 getting closer. Some older titles are proving they have plenty of life left in them though, including one of the stronger titles from SNK’s recent releases. An older game in the developer’s catalogue will be receiving a major upgrade, with a Samurai Shodown rollback netcode update getting announced.
Rollback netcode updates are currently being rolled out to quite a few older games that are still played as fighting game esports. It’s not just the biggest new releases that get the most modern online play anymore. We’ve now got a good idea of when the new Samurai Shodown update with the level up for online will be coming to the game.

Rollback Netcode Update is Coming
SNK has detailed in full their plans to bring rollback netcode to the game. What is rollback netcode though? It’s a different way of handling online gameplay for fighters. The game will perform inputs from players instantly with this approach, rather than working on a delay. It’s a system for online players that can get things working nearly as well as in-person games. While most of the biggest fighting games in 2023 have something like this, it’s increasingly being added to older titles too.
Samurai Shodown initially tested the rollback netcode update across some beta periods. Originally the release date was scheduled for around September. However, it’s now been delayed.
Samurai Shodown rollback netode update brings it in line with more modern games. Other older fighters are still waiting on the feature though. Such as the FighterZ rollback netcode update which has been pushed back a few times. SNK is planning the release of a few new titles soon. So it’s great to see unique older titles like this still getting improvements.
