This weekend’s EVO action was some of the most impactful tournaments we’ve ever seen. There’s no better representation of that than SF 6 EVO 2024. The latest Capcom release has been the biggest fighting game over the last two years. This year’s Street Fighter event kicked it up another notch though.
As a major part of the Capcom Cup this year, SF 6 EVO 2024 is an important tournament. It’s not just the most hyped at EVO but it’s part of a major circuit that’ll see its winner head towards one of the most exciting prizes in fighting games. The end results at EVO are particularly exciting too, with a player who has a reputation for just missing out on the trophy finally managing to come in clutch. This is how SF 6 EVO 2024 happened.

Kicking things off for the bracket in Street Fighter 6, Punk began up against Momochi, but managed to sail through to the Winners Finals with a 3-1 win. Here he faced Big Bird, who’d just beaten out EndingWalker. Big Bird got knocked down to the losers’ bracket after a clean 3-0 win from Punk.
Here, he put an end to EndingWalkers hopes for a second time, securing a rematch in the Grand Final for SF 6 EVO 2024. Across the weekend we saw dramatic final games, like the bracket reset in GGS EVO 2024. The Grand Finale here didn’t disappoint either.

In the first section, we saw a complete reversal. Big Bird beat Punk 3-0, in a direct reverse of their previous match. This meant a bracket reset and an extension to our grand final. In this second game, both players had beaten each other already. It came out close, with Punk and Big Bird trading rounds. Eventually Punk managed to push ahead, and just clutched it up 3-2.
Punk’s fantastic win in this final round will go down as one of the tensest in SF 6. We now have a new EVO Street Fighter champion. They’ll be an interesting player to watch at the Capcom Cup, with their slot now secured.
