MenaRD Wins SF 6 at EVO Japan After Rough Bracket
Starting in the Finals bracket for SF 6 at EVO Japan 2024, MenaRD was already out ahead in the winners’ side. He faced Ryukichi and only just pulled ahead 3-2. In the Winners’ final, he was up against Lexx who had been strong so far, including against Vxbao in the Semis. MenaRD managed to hit a new height for his play here though, breezing through at 3-0.
In the Grand Final we were set for a clash between Kakeru and MenaRD. Normally these Grand Finals can become the tightest matches of the tournament, with lower-side players facing the potential of playing the game twice to claim victory. Ultimately our grand final was a bit smoother though, MenaRD cleanly won 3-0.
At the close of SF 6 at EVO Japan 2024, MenaRD is the clear and definitive winner. With this big win, the multi-time winner might have started another Capcom Cup Champion year for Street Fighter.

Tokido Competed with Newly-Invented Faster Button
One of the most unique names to watch throughout the tournament has been Tokido. Not only is he a high level player, but he had something of a secret weapon for SF 6 at EVO Japan 2024. A faster button.
Tokido has announced a special One Frame button, which apparently activated inputs significantly faster. In theory, this would mean he’s pulling off moves faster than anyone else in the tournament’s bracket. This an advantage over everyone else playing, did Tokido provide results to make his button a must-buy for any hopeful?
While he wasn’t the winner of SF 6, he did place well. The player made it through to the semi-finals of the winners bracket, only being knocked out by MenaRD. He still had a chance in the loser bracket but ultimately lost to Kakeru. Losing out to the two players who took 1st and 2nd is no small feat though, clearing Tokido’s button has the chops. It’ll be interesting to see how this develops over the rest of the year. This button could end up being a major player in competitive fighting games over 2024.

SF 6 at EVO Japan 2024
The Street Fighter 6 tournament might be our highlight for EVO Japan 2024. The tournament is featuring a full prize pool of 2,000,000 Yen (or nearly $13 USD). That’s a huge prize for this single tournament, which might be partially why we’ve seen nearly 5,000 players sign up to take part.
The event will begin with a pools round as we narrow down the competitors. With thousands and thousands of players, this might take a while. Eventually though we’ll be left with just the best Street Fighter 6 players. These will compete in a double elimination bracket, across the tournaments run time of April 27-29th.
That’s how the tournament is going to work. We’ve already seen tons of major players sign to take part in the event though.

SF 6 at EVO Japan 2024 Tops Registration numbers
It’s only a little while until we start to get more information about EVO Japan 2024. The tournament is now fast approaching. One of the early indicators of which games are most popular is the entrants numbers. There are quite a few games featured, but only one has managed to rise above 1,000 sign-ups.
Street Fighter 6 is currently sat at over 3,400 sign ups! That’s massively above all the other games at the event. Even the brand-new game, Tekken 8, is only sat at 853. Next up is Guilty Gear Strive. While a little older, it’s clearly still one of the most popular fighting games. Sign-ups for Guilty Gear are at over 500, as is Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising. Even SF3 is already at 339.
The sign ups show that Street Fighter is still very much dominating in these events. As we enter the second season of the Capcom Cup having a prize pool of over a million, interest in the game isn’t dropping at all. It doesn’t look like there’s going to be anything that can knock Street Fighter 6 off its top spot in 2024.
