The biggest fighting game release of 2024 so far has been Tekken 8, a huge leap forward for the series. It has got a ton of content for players to get through, but key to all gameplay if the Tekken 8 characters. Choosing the right character out of the opening roster of names will make all the difference for how you perform in-game. There’s some which have definitely been stronger than others.
So far things, the roster for Tekken 8 has been a fun mix. We’ve gotten plenty of the original characters that make Tekken what it is. but a lot of the names mentioned for DLC point towards an exciting post-game support period.
While the latest instalment in this one of the top fighting games series is a little smaller in roster than those with years’ worth of DLC, there’s something for everyone. If you want to get better at this fighter, you’ll need to learn everyone on the roster.

Tekken has now released in full and we’ve had plenty of time to get to know all of the characters in the game. The Tekken 8 characters were the focus for early promotion for this game, getting their own unique trailers. Now it has launched some fighters have definitely proved more popular, being the most used Tekken 8 characters.
If you look through the full list of all 32 characters in Tekken 8 though, there’s plenty that are worth looking into. These are all of the base Tekken 8 characters.
Jin Kazama

Jin is basically the protagonist of Tekken, at least since the third game. He’s obviously returning in this title. However, he has have a more expansive role, at least compared to the Tekken 7 story.
Devil Jin
Devil Jin is another one of the Tekken 8 characters returning, as more of his own character than in the past.
Kazuya Mishima

Kazuya is another obvious inclusion on the Tekken 8 roster. He’s the primary antagonist of the series and a powerful villain.
Devil Kazuya
Devil Kazuya is one of the transformation Tekken 8 characters which make the roster. This character had a more complicated Tekken 7 character unlock, but things are simpler in Tekken 8.
Jack-8

Jack-8 the cyborg fighter is back too, looking stronger than ever with the revamped style.
Jun Kazama

Jun Kazama is a really fun inclusion, showing up in the mainline series for the first time in ages! If you’re a big fan of PS3 fighting games like Tekken Tag then you’ll likely remember them.
King

The Leopard headed fighter is back as one of the Tekken 8 characters. King the second is one of the best grapplers out there and a key part of the roster.
Lars Alexandersson

Lars makes a return here too. He was the main character back in past Tekken but here is another supporting member of the roster.
Marshall Law

Marshall Law is a character who makes it back into the Tekken 8 roster. His design is fun here too and takes advantage of the increased graphical quality for Tekken 8 characters.
Nina Williams

Nina Williams has a new design which definitely brightens things up for the character. Her moveset includes guns which adds some variety to the Tekken 8 roster.
Paul Phoenix

Paul Phoenix is coming back in the latest Tekken game. In previous titles he’s been a more comedic character, but his hyper-aggressive attacks and specials make him feel pretty serious in Tekken 7 Ranked mode.
Ling Xiaoyu

Ling makes a return this game, complete with her unique dancing fighting style. She’s a more supporting character but is one of the more fun Tekken 8 characters to play.
Leeroy Smith

Leroy is staying in the roster despite being a DLC addition to Tekken 7, which is great for his devoted fans.
Asuka Kazama

We’re getting more than Kazama in the Tekken 8 roster this time around! Asuka hasn’t ever had a big role in Tekken’s world but this title could be the one that pushes her into the limelight.
Emilie “Lili” De Fochefort

Lili has also returned as one of the Tekken 8 characters. An intresting launch character with some decent combo potential.
Hwoarang

Hworant is another older character returning, having first appeared in Tekken 3. He’s not had a major role in the story for the game but is still around for the new title.
Bryan Fury

Brian Fury is another returning character revealed in the build-up to the full Tekken 8 roster. He’s a cyborg like Jack, but with a bit more of a human design!
Claudio Serafino

Claudio is a returning character, one who first appeared just in Tekken 7! They’re the world’s strongest exorcist, which might be a real accomplishment in the world of Tekken.
Raven

Raven is one of the Tekken 8 characters who has been around for a while. He was introduced in Tekken 5. He was a permanent new addition, before getting cut in the 7th instalment. He’s back for Tekken 8 though.
Azucena Milagros Ortiz Castillo

Azucena Milagros Ortiz Castillo of the coffee queen is a new fighter for Tekken 8. They have a bit of a long name, but they’re a creative new addition to the roster.
Feng Wei

Feng Wei is a longer running character in the series. They often serve an antagonistic role in the stories of the Tekken series.
Yoshimitsu

Yoshimitsu is a long-standing character in Tekken, having appeared in pretty much every game since the first. They’re back for Tekken 8 with a fun rework of their fighting style.
Steve Fox

Back for Tekken 8, Steve Fox is a British Tekken character with a lot of mystery behind them. They’re related to another fighter, Nina Williams.
Leo

Leo is a character who made their first appearance back in the Tekken 6 roster. They’re a fighter whose design kind of differs from the traditional Tekken design of burly muscular man, which is a nice change.
Sergei Dragunov

Sergi is another addition back from Tekken 5, and he’s been a key part of the roster in every game since.
Kuma

Kuma is another animal style creature. Along with King he’s one of the most fun characters purely from the visual sense.
Shaheen

Shaheen is a returning character from Tekken 7. It’s great to see characters from that instalment becoming roster mainstays in Tekken 8.
Panda

Panda is another animal-based character, a giant panda. If the name didn’t give it away!
Zafina

Zafina is a Tekken 6 addition that’s stuck around. She’s not the strongest character in 8, having had some nerfs.
Lee Chaolan

In the lore of Tekken, Lee is a pretty central character being Heihachi Mishima’s son. He first appeared back in the original Tekken.
Alisa Bosconovitch

Alisa is another more recent character to make the roster, having been around since Tekken 6 Bloodline Rebellion. She’s surprisingly an Android.
Victor Chevalier

Victor is a Tekken character who founded the UN Independent Forces, a pretty important character in the current lore.
Reina

The most popular breakout character in Tekken 8 at launch was definitely Reina, dominating the most played stats. They might end up being one of the new additions who define the meta in Tekken 8.
