Tekken 8 Reina Mods Taken Down With DMCA Strike

Modding is a pretty popular way to adapt games, but what happens when the developers get involved? Not every dev likes fans having the ability to change up their games. For Tekken 8, one of 2024’s biggest fighters, Bandai Namco has just stepped in to take some away. After a DMCA warning, Tekken 8 mods have been taken down by Bandai Namco. Why has one particular mod been targeted though?

Modding isn’t always the most popular with publishers When they have DLC characters they’re hoping to sell you, it can particularly cause problems. However, while even Super Smash Bros Ultimate mods are out there, Bandai is getting harsh with some of their mods for Tekken 8.

This recent Tekken 8 mods takedown has largely been directed towards a specific type of them Bandai isn’t shutting down all attempts to modify a game. However, they are targeting mods that could infringe on their sales pitch for future DLC. This is what’s been affected.

Tekken 8 Mods Taken Down Including Devil Reina

Tekken mod hosters have begun to receive DMCA takedown notices from the publishers of Tekken. Bandai Namco is stepping in to address some specific mods that are being hosted. So far, it’s a mod that uses the Devil Reina character.

What’s interesting about this mod is that it uses a model from in-game exclusively. It unlocks the Devil Reina character from the Tekken 8 story mode. This model is already in the game, it isn’t adding any specific or unique fan-made content. However, Bandai has identified a problem with the problem. What if they want to sell Devil Reina as a DLC character in the future? This is their reasoning for the Tekken 8 mods being taken down. To ensure they’re not cutting into DLC.

Mods that unlock different characters in-game are often fine, but once we start to deal with characters that could be added it seems different. Given that this mod does unlock in-game content, it makes sense it’s being taken down. Hopefully, other mods aren’t treated so strictly though. Modded characters might not be useful for fighting game esports, but they add a lot to the user’s experience.
