Tekken 8 Sales Go Beyond 2 Million in Latest Update
Tekken 8’s is 2024’s biggest new fighter so far, but how many people have gotten involved? While the Tekken 8 player count seems to encompass most of the fighting game community, there’s steep competition right now. Tekken 8 sales are the best view we have of how many people have gotten involved in the game since launch. We’ve just gotten a fresh update on these sales figures, with Tekken 8 sales passing 2 million!
The latest release in the Tekken franchise was sure to be one of the biggest fighting games of 2024. With both Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 being recent releases though, 8 had steeper competition than some past titles in the series. It’s beating them so far at least though. The game has managed to pass the 2 million milestone in just a few weeks! How does this compare and what does it mean for the Tekken 8 player count?

Tekken 8 Sales Hit New Milestone
Tekken 8 first dropped in January 2024. It’s only been available for a few weeks so far. In that short time, we’ve already seen it outsell similar games in some regions. However, as an overall sales figure, we’ve only just gotten a major update. The game has managed to pass two million copies within just a few weeks.
Passing 2 million in this short of a time means Tekken 8 sales are definitely going faster than Street Fighter 6 sales. While the game hasn’t yet got a bigger player base, these new sales figures show it’s growing faster. These are strong numbers, especially considering it took longer for Tekken 7 to hit this mark.
Tekken 8 proceeding so much faster is bright news for the title. It’s enjoying increased viewership on Twitch too, along with more attention for fighting game esports events. The whole of fighting games has seen increased interest in the last year, understandable given all of these major game releases recently. It looks like Tekken 8 sales may surpass Tekken 7 sooner than we expected! Hopefully, when the Tekken World Tour resumes for the year, the Tekken 8 player count will be just as strong as it is now.
Tekken 8 Player Count is Double Street Fighter 6’s Launch in the UK
In the UK, fighting games are fairly popular. It seems like the Tekken series is the country’s favorite though. The UK physical sales for the launch weekend have been almost double the initial sales for SF 6. Along with MK 1, SF 6 is probably the closest comparable game to Tekken 8. It’s the newest instalment in the long-running series, with a big life ahead of it as a competitive fighter.

Are these numbers a random quirk of this exact measurement though, or more of an indicator of what’s to come? Since we’re only looking at UK sales figures, we can make some decent comparisons. This number only affects physical sales. While this makes figures like this impressive, just under 89% of games sold in the UK are physical. This essentially means we’re seeing just over a 10% slice of the sales figures for the game. Not the whole picture. It’s possible that the physical vs digital sales skew is different for Street Fighter rather than Tekken.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that different fighters are more possible in different locations. Tekken 7 similarly topped the charts for UK sales back when it was first released. This could suggest the series as a whole is more popular here. SF 6 had a noticeably sluggish launch in the country too.
These latest Tekken 8 sales figures are definitely good news for anyone hoping for greater variety in fighting game esports in the UK. With physical sales figures an increasingly less meaningful part of a game’s total player base though, we’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out if this is a trend or just a quirk.
