AngryBird and double Qualify for Esports World Cup at THEMIXUP 2024

In the build-up to the MIXUP 2024, we saw most of the major fighting game players lining up to take part in the tournament. In part, because a handful of these events carried with them qualifying spots at the Esports World Cup. Now we’ve seen the tournament concluded, we know exactly which players have gotten their slots.

In Tekken 8, we saw a tight competition. Some of the best Tekken players like JeonDDing weighed in for the event. Ultimately, it was the Japanese player double who took first place though. This means he’ll take the biggest prize, the most points for the TWT, but also a position at the Esports World Cup for Tekken 8.

The other event at the MIXUP 2024 which served as a qualifier was Street Fighter 6. Just like with Tekken, the best Street Fighter 6 players were in attendance here. We saw a tense final bracket, coming down to AngryBird against NoahTheProdigy. In the end, it was AngryBird who seized victory though. Ensuring his spot at the esports world cup for Street Fighter 6.

These players have already triumphed over some of the biggest names in fighting games at the MIXUP 2024. They could be players to watch at the Esports World Cup too.

The MIXUP 2024 Preview

The MIXUP is a French fighting game event with some of the top games. We’ll see events happen here for most of the biggest fighters. Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6 are leading the pack. However, there’s a good number of Arc System Works games here too. Pls titles like Mortal Kombat 1 hanging on.

Each of the events will be played with a pool round followed by an elimination bracket. Some of the events have a bit more at stake though. They’re qualifiers to bigger events in fighting game esports as well as their prize pool here.

These are all of the games we’re expecting to see over the MIXUP 2024:

  • Tekken 8
  • Street Fighter 6
  • Guilty Gear Strive
  • Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ
  • Under Night In-Birth II [Sys:Celes]
  • King of Fighters XV
  • Mortal Kombat 1
  • Melty Blood Type Lumina
  • Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2

Some of these are going to be particularly worth following. The Tekken 8 tournament is part of the World Tour, a Masters event no less. The winner here will gain quite a few points. It’s also a qualifier for the Esports World Cup, so there’s even more reason to focus on this. GGS is part of the Arc World Tour, as is Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, and FighterZ is part of its World Tour.

The Street Fighter 6 tournament here isn’t part of the Capcom Cup. However, winners will get access to the Esports World Cup Street Fighter 6 tournament with its huge prize pool.

Between these extra circuits, there are quite a few of these tournaments stepping up to the next level. It’ll make the MIXUP one of the most hyped fighting game events this summer.
