Sparg0 Wins Watch the Throne 2023

The Finals singles bracket for Wath the Throne 2023 was one of the most stacked tournaments we’ve seen. In the first round of the final bracket, we had Miya, Sparg0, Sonix, and acola all lined up. In this kind of bracket it’s hard to tell where the results will go, with all of the players with a claim to being the best here. The first round of matches saw Sparg0 up against miya where he pulled ahead only losing one set.

In the Losers side of things, Sonix took the first win, knocking the best Steve player out. While Steve’s unbalanced features have been controversial in Smash Bros, getting knocked out by the top Sonic player shows anyone can be viable in the right hands. In the Losers finals, Sonix once again took victory knocking miya out of the tournament.

In the Grand Finals, we saw Sparg0 face Sonix. Sparg0 pulled ahead early winning the first set. For the second though, he switched his character up and lost the set to Sonix. For the next two, he returned to Cloud, and won both securing his win at Watch the Throne 2023.

Sparg0 has long been one of the best active Ultimate players. Over 2023, he might have finally pulled ahead of the competition to be the absolute number one though. With MKLeo bowing out in 7th at Watch the Throne, it seems the days of Leo and Sparg0 fighting for the top spot might be over.

Watch the Throne Preview

Smash Bros hasn’t had an overarching circuit about to wrap up this year, but with big events like Watch the Throne 2023, there are still tons to look forward to. It’s maybe our biggest competition in December, with slots for Genesis up for grabs. How will the fighting game esports event work though?

Watch the Throne 2023 will see a lot of the best Smash Bros players showing up. Eight individuals were directly invited, including MKLeo and Sparg0. We’ll see these and 8 more players competing, in a Summit style format. This is how the tournament will work.

Watch the Throne 2023

Watch the Throne 2023 is one of our final Smash tournaments in 2023 and it fittingly has an expanded format compared to most majors. It’s a tournament limited to 16 players, but essentially cut down to the top Smash players of the year. Out of those competing, 8 came directly from invites. Another three were voted on during the crowdfunding for the tournament. Five more came through placing highly at other tournaments like Super Smash Con.

What kind of format is the tournament starting up with? It first features a traditional Group Stage, before a Gauntlet Stage, and finally the actual bracket. It’s a long journey for a 16-person tournament, but we’ll be able to see each of these top players earn their slot in the grand finale.
