Fortnite Car Pickaxe Bug is Now Pay to Win

The last patch had some fun new content, but an old Fortnite car pickaxe bug might be one of the strangest changes. This old bug has been hotly debated for Chapters now. Is it intentional, a way to counter players using cars as their personal shields, or just an accident? This latest patch did manage to fix what a lot of players thought was sticking around for the long run, but it’s not consistent.

Fortnite has a ton of different pickaxes. While skins get most of the focus, there are even some rare Fortnite pickaxes too. It isn’t their rarity that deals with this new bug though. Instead, it’s changed the older way of attacking players in cars, so it now only works with players using a specific model of pickaxe. What exactly has happened and is this a bug or a feature?

What is the Fortnite Car Pickaxe Bug/Attack?

Explaining what this bug is can be tricky, since it’s not even agreed that it’s a bug. It’s a mechanic where players can swing their pickaxe the frame that they enter the passenger side of the car. For some reason, players will continue to swing their pickaxe despite being in the passenger seat. This damages the player driving. Most of the Fortnite player base knows to get out when this happens. However, you can sometimes pull off a sneaky kill this way too.

The feature was in heavy use in seasons with a lot of car gameplay. Confusing for those who don’t understand it. Since it went season after season without a fix, the consensus lately has been that this must be an intended feature. At least, it’s a bug Epic feels in no hurry to fix. However, with the latest patch notes there’s been a big change.

The Car Bug Gets Fixed, for Some Pickaxes

With the latest Fortnite update, this bug or feature has actually been patched! Although, it doesn’t apply to every pickaxe. It’ll no longer damage players if you’re using a standard harvesting tool. However, two-handed pickaxes, for some reason, will still activate it.

This means either Epic’s fix hasn’t worked as intended, or this is another, second bug. Accidentally fixing the weird interaction that became a feature. Gameplay differences between pickaxe models break the no competitive advantage part of the game. So, we’ll probably find out in the next update if this fix was intended, or if the car pickaxe bug will be sticking around. At least this change should give us a clear answer on if this is an intended feature or just a long-lasting bug.
