What’s the Best Minecraft Version?
There are a lot of different versions that players like to play on where you can be creative. You can get started by building an easy house and crafting your heart out from there. Here are some of the top examples, ranging from PvP versions to updates that introduced incredible features.
Minecraft Version 1.17 and 1.18
The Caves & Cliffs Update was split into two parts, 1.17 and 1.18. They both combined to completely change the game. The maximum height and depth were significantly increased, giving players more to explore vertically. Cave systems were overhauled and have led to some incredible generation. The mountains are great, but the caves really shine in this version. There is so much more to explore beneath the surface and this update is directly responsible for that.
Minecraft Version 1.8.9

Version 1.8.9 is considered the best PvP version. This update came right before the Combat Update (1.9) ironically. But most PvP players didn’t like that update since it added some cooldowns to weapons and other tweaks. This removed some of the skill required to play PvP Minecraft, so a ton of gamers have stayed on this version since then. There have been a lot of updates since but most are content to stay back in 1.8.9 or even earlier for PvP. It represents the apex before things fell off in the eyes of competitive PvP players, which is why it’s so popular even today.
Minecraft 1.6
The 1.6 version of Minecraft is one of the best Minecraft versions. It introduced horses to the game, and that remains one of the most significant mob additions. Resource packs, baby zombies, and baby zombie pigmen were added to the game as well. This was a huge update to the game but it also reflects a simpler time. Minecraft didn’t have as much going on, and it’s beautifully nostalgic to just ride a horse and build a Minecraft house with no worries.
Minecraft 1.20.1
The best Minecraft version for modding is 1.20.1. Forge has a ton of incredible mods, but they’re not all applicable to every version of the game. 1.20.1 is the version that finds that sweet spot where the vast majority of mods are available to play with. This is a Java Edition feature, but it’s one that allows for so much variety in gameplay and keeps the game fresh like the Minecraft flower pots you can create! For that reason, quite a few players enjoy staying on this version and modding their game to infinity.
