This Hyper-Realistic Shooter is Now in Early Access on PC

Bodycam is now available in early access exclusively on PC. It’s an Unreal Engine 5 shooter that feels a little more like a tech demo than a full-fledged game, but it’s a wonderful showcase of the capabilities of the engine. Assembled by a minuscule team, Bodycam offers players a unique perspective on the first-person shooter genre, putting them in a range of scenarios that are intensely realistic and gritty, with the game playing out as though it’s a recording made on a literal bodycam.

It’s a typical first-person shooter elsewhere, boasting the same modes you’d expect from the likes of Call of Duty. That’s where the comparisons mostly end, though. Bodycam is a rich and developing game with a stunning visual palette on offer, and it’s without a doubt the most realistic shooter you’ll have ever played. The earliest reviews of the game have been mixed, but that’s mostly being attributed to early access flaws and people ‘not understanding how it works’.

The Most Realistic Shooter Ever

Last year, a hyper-realistic shooter named Unrecord turned heads with a short trailer that showcased the game’s potential. It was so realistic that people had issues believing it wasn’t found footage from a real-life shootout. It was accompanied by disclaimers online from creators promising their video platforms that it wasn’t snuff footage or something similar – but in fact, it was just a drastically realistic video game.

However, Unrecord went dark and any updates on the game’s progress have been lost to the abyss of time.

Enter Bodycam, a game with the exact same premise but better delivery. It’s available now in early access and has been enjoyed by some of the biggest content creators in the world, such as Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel. Creators from games like Escape from Tarkov are finding a comfortable home in Bodycam, which is just as challenging as the famed extraction shooter.

Bodycam isn’t designed to be easy or welcoming – it’s a tough-as-nails shooter with some pesky teething issues that need more than a little patience – but the pay-off is super rewarding. No shooter has ever felt this insanely realistic, and every shot means something. What’s more incredible is that the game has been built by two developers – one of which is just 17 years old. They’re trying to ‘push the boundaries of photorealism’, delivering a teamplay-oriented experience that stuns audiences worldwide.

Everything from the effects of a flashbang to the way an enemy writhes in pain after being shot is harrowingly realistic. This isn’t a first-person shooter for the faint of heart.
