Team Ninja’s PlayStation 5 exclusive Rise of the Ronin launched in 2024 to favorable reviews. This action RPG puts gamers in 19th-century Japan, during the leadup to the Boshin War. Amid the action, there are plenty of characters for players to form a romance with in Rise of the Ronin.
Creating a bond with these characters isn’t easy, and you won’t always realize that they can be fully romanced. We want to help. With our Rise of the Ronin romance guide, we’ll show you who you’re able to forge a relationship with, and how to do so efficiently.

To romance the various characters available in Rise of the Ronin, there are a number of things you need to do. You need to increase your bond with a romance option, which, at a certain point, will unlock Favor with this character. You can do this via a combination of these three options:
As you complete missions in Rise of the Ronin, you’ll earn several different gifts. You can give this to your potential romance partners in order to increase your bond with them. This is a crucial part of the process, but you can’t just give your partner any old gift. If you head to the Ally menu, you can see what your romance option likes and dislikes, to make this process much quicker. Once you’ve given a gift, you have to wait a while before gifting again, so choose carefully!
As you develop your Rise of the Ronin romance, you might notice that several Bond missions become available for certain characters. By completing these, you’ll develop your bond with the character, so make sure you do them when they appear.
Let’s be real – no one likes it when their partner sides against them in a conversation, and Rise of the Ronin’s romance options are no different. When talking with them, always make sure you’re on their side. This helps to build the bond between you two, leading to a healthy relationship.
Once your bond has increased enough with your chosen romance option, you’ll unlock Favor. Functionally, Favor works exactly the same as your bond, and is improved with the exact same methods as seen above. Keep on working on your relationship, until you are eventually given the option to enter a Veiled Vow with your romance option. With this complete, your Rise of the Ronin romance journey is complete!

In total, Rise of the Ronin features 13 romance options to choose from. These characters are part of different factions, so you’ll need to play all sides to experience all of the Rise of the Ronin romances. However, you’re able to build Favor with multiple characters at the same time, so you don’t have to practice monogamy if you really don’t want to. Be warned, though. Not everyone will be pleased if you form Veiled Vows with more than one character at a time, so you’ll need to live with the consequences of that decision.
