According to leaks, Mel Medarda will be the first League of Legends champion to be released in 2025. Here’s what we know so far.

According to LeagueOfLeaks on X, Mel will be a mage who has abilities “might be inspired by the existing abilities used as placeholders in her HUD”. While the news hasn’t been confirmed by Riot Games themselves, we’re going to get an initial taste of the Medarda characters with the release of Ambessa Medarda, Mel’s mother.
Unlike her daughter, Ambessa is expected to be a bruiser tank champion for the top lane. It was confirmed she will be released this year, likely around the time Arcane season 2 is released in November and coinciding with the Grand Final of the 2024 League of Legends World Championship.
In Arcane, Mel is a Noxian aristocrat, and politician, based in Piltover and a member of the ruling council. She was disowned earlier on in her life, which is why she moved to Piltover. Using her political prowess, Mel rises up the ranks of her clan, becoming one of the richest people in the city.
In the first season, Mel learned about the potential of Hextech during Jayce Talis’ trial and then helped Jayce and Viktor sneak into Heimerdinger’s lab to prove that the Hextech technology was workable.
Later in the series, Mel and Jayce worked their way to a leading political position in Piltover, removing Heimerdinger from his position as well. When the clash between Piltover and Zaun began, Mel advised Jayce to develop Hextech weapons to protect the city.
Mel reunited with her mother Ambessa who, however, was pushing for the war for personal gains. At that point, Mel decided to cut ties with her and tried to support Jayce in making peace with Silco. The first season, however, ends with Jinx attacking the chambers a few moments before finalizing the peace agreement.
