Thanks to the recent buffs, Leona has risen to the top of the support champion pool. She has lots of crowd controls and tanks way more than most supports thanks to her W. Among all supports in the game, the best one that consistently wins against Leona would be Janna. You don’t have necessarily to play enchanter supports to win against Leona. Braum is a perfect example of how you can play a tank champion and still beat Leona in patch 14.14 thanks to the amount of peeling power and disengage potential he offers. The stun from his passive as well as the knock up from his ultimate are essential in disrupting Leona’s movements during heated skirmishes or teamfights. As long as you have a synergizing ADC alongside him, Braum is a great choice.
If the team still needs some sort of hard engage in the team comp, then Alistar is probably the best shot against Leona. Not only can he knock Leona away but he can also tank more damage than her counterpart whenever he has the ultimate ready.
While Senna is a ranged champion and has a natural advantage over Leona, the support is far too squishy and can be easily engaged on by Leona with Flash or Hexflash. If there is only one misstep, Senna is likely going to get caught and die. All you have to hope for is to scale later into the game, but in most games, that won’t happen.
When it comes to hard-engages, there aren’t many options better than Nautilus. Against Leona, however, the engage potential is not that useful since the enemy also wants to get closer to you. The issue is that Leona is far tankier than Nautilus, making her the overall stronger pick. So avoid this matchup whenever possible since it would be quite a big handicap down in the bottom lane.
