As a top lane player, Malphite can be one of the most annoying champions to deal with. You can mechanically play your champion to the limit but it might not be enough to kill the tank who can just walk around and kill you by pressing a few buttons. While it can be acceptable, often times this can be frustrating. To that end, we have listed the best Malphite counters that will guarantee you an edge on Summoner’s Rift.

Malphite has a decent amount of burst damage to kill squishy targets. With that in mind, you can expect tanks to be generally strong against him. The best one out there is Dr. Mundo, who deals %HP damage with his Q and has great sustain to survive all incoming damage. Stack up Heartsteel and Grasp of the Undying as much as possible to get even tankier and break down turrets with Demolish: Malphite won’t be able to stop you.
Mordekaiser is one of the best lane counters you can play into Malphite. The former deals magic damage, which forces the enemy to build magic resistance and not armor, reducing the damage output and tankiness from her kit. The rock champion is also quite immobile, which means Mordekaiser can force trades with him as long as he gets caught from the E. Once low, all the top lane champion has to do is bring Malphite to the Death Realm to finish him off.

Camille doesn’t really win against Malphite early on since she can’t kill the enemy. That being said, Camille will scale better given that she has true damage on her kit, completely nullifying one of Malphite’s key strengths. This will allow Camille to win duels on the side lane and allow her to split push to build advantage and pressure. Both champions need to scale up.
Tryndamere is the worst champion you could play into Malphite. Not only are you not going to kill him given the amount of armor he stacks, but he will also lower your DPS thanks to the attack speed reduction on Malphite’s E.
Aatrox’s sustain is heavily reduced against tanks that can stack up armor and build antiheal. Malphite can do both of them very early into the game, putting the Darkin champion immediately at a disadvantage. Things get even worse later in the game since Malphite will be able to become even tankier and become unkillable for Aatrox.
When going up against Malphite, it’s recommend to build items that can amplify damage dealt. Below is a list of items to build you should consider, based on the class of champion you’re playing:
The three best counters are Mundo, Mordekaiser, and Camille. Other strong counters are Sylas, Rek’Sai, and Zac.
Garen is not considered a Malphite counter but he has enough tankiness to exert pressure by split pushing. Both champions can’t really kill one another so it comes down to who can impact the game more through other conditions. Malphite can only match Garen on the split push but will have to mainly join fights and take down the right carries. Garen, on the other hand, will have to juggle between different tasks depending on the game state. In general, however, Garen has a slight advantage since he can decide between playing for the team or playing for side lane pressure.
