Rumble counters in LoL – the top three picks
Rumble has a special presence in LoL: he is not your usual top laner but whenever he is picked, you know he will be a pain to deal with. It’s hard to get used to his trading patterns, especially with the passive, and on top of that, he has a game-changing ultimate. Luckily, we got you covered: will be going over the best three Rumble counters, so you know what to pick to win against him.
If you’re fairly new to the game, check out our guide on how counter picks work in League of Legends. You will understand why counter picks are important, and how you need to take advantage of them to increase your win rate. Make sure to also understand how classes counter one another in LoL so you always know what to pick in each game.
Cassiopeia – the best counter
While she’s rarely played as a top laner, Cassiopeia is actually one of the best picks into Rumble. She can farm safely thanks to her Twin Fangs throughout the laning phase, healing up a large part of the damage she might take. If Rumble tries to walk into her face, she can just petrify him with the ultimate before finishing him off with her high DPS. A great Cassiopeia main will win the matchup in most of the games.
Kayle – the alternative
As long as you’re able to survive the first few levels and stay even with Rumble, you’re pretty much guaranteed to win this matchup. The ranged form will allow you to farm safely and if he tries to fight you, you will always be able to live thanks to the ultimate. Use it to protect you from his ultimate or to get away from him.

Gragas – the lane bully
While he’s not one of the popular champions in the top lane tier list, Gragas is one of the few picks that can actually stomp Rumble in the laning phase. This is mainly thanks to his burst damage combos and sustain. A few combo rotations will allow you to get a significant advantage which can turn into kills if you’re able to finish him off with a good ultimate.
Worst Rumble counters
Gangplank – the worst matchup
Whenever you see Rumble picked, avoid going for Gangplank. Not only does the Yordle have more range than you but he will win almost every single trade. Once he unlocks the Equalizer, there will be no way for you to get away and it will be a living hell to survive every time.
K’Sante – a bad choice
Sometimes seen in professional play as a matchup, K’Sante has a hard time against Rumble due to his weak early game and inability to fight the Yordle until super late into the game. Rumble has better wave clearing and will generally win the trades if he stacks up his fury.
How do you counter Rumble with the items?
If you don’t want to waste time on LoL by losing random games, you’ll need to think about the itemization as well. When going up against Rumble, it’s recommended to stack lots of health and magic resistance. Below is a list of items to build you should consider, based on the class of champion you’re playing:
- Bruisers: Spirit Visage, Force of Nature, Kaenic Rakoorn
- AD assassins: Maw of Malmortius
- ADC champions: Wit’s End, Mercurial Scimitar, Hexdrinker (if multiple magic damage enemy champions)
- AP champions: Banshee’s Veil
- Tanks: Spirit Visage, Force of Nature, Kaenic Rakoorn, Abyssal Mask (if AP)
What Champion counters Rumble?
The three best counters are Cassiopeia, Kayle, and Gragas Other strong counters include Ornn, Sion, and Mordekaiser.
Does Yasuo counter Rumble?
I would rarely recommend playing Yasuo into Rumble. While the former has good mobility and should be able with Rumble during the laning phase, the Yordle will always have the Equalizer later in the game which Yasuo cannot wind wall and the damage will burn through most of his health bar.
