Aside from creating more than 160 unique champions and an incredibly interactive and engaging gaming experience, Riot Games and their MOBA League of Legends are known to have one of the largest catalogs of character customization.
Even though the skins do not necessarily directly impact the game, there are some aspects that do make the champion feel smoother or better to play thanks to enhanced animations or clearer visuals. With the wide variety of skins and cosmetics, each player can give their own favorite champion its special touch to stand out from the crowd.
Now that the game is nearly 15 years old (released back in 2009), the amount of skins that have stepped on Summoner’s Rift is reaching well over the one-thousand mark. But how many skins are there in total in League of Legends? Let’s find out.
You’re going to be amazed by the number: according to the popular League of Legends wiki site leagueoflegends.fandom, there are currently 1,710 skins in total (the total count is up until September 2024).
With the release of every patch, more skins will be making their way to Summoners’ Rift. Some follow specific skin lines while others are special edition aspects to celebrate moments or events, just like the yearly skins given to the League of Legends World champions.
Be aware that despite the astonishing number of skins, not all aspects are worth the same. There are four different tiers, all having different price points, ranging from the most basic aspects to the more detailed ones, with improved voice lines and special animations. The pricing is as follows:

Riot Games has created many different skin lines over the years, giving players the chance to get matching aspects for various champions. With more than 120 different skin lines in the game, the newest one is the Worlds 2023 T1 skins, which were introduced in Patch 14.16.
Chroma skins are special aspects of the same skin with the ability to tweak color patterns. It was yet another way for the devs to increase player creativity and customizability. Currently, there are more than 5,000 chromas in total, and that number is yet to go up every new patch and the release of new skins.
Some champions have definitely gotten preferential treatment over the years, having received a lot more skins compared to the less popular champions. Currently, the champion with the highest amount of skins is Miss Fortune (as of September 2024) with 21 different skins, the latest one being the new Admiral Battle Bunny skin.
Every champion can have a Prestige skin, which can be crafted with Mythic Essence. Prestige skins are exclusive iterations of certain skins, with even more stunning animations to attract players. And since these Prestige versions can only be crafted with the Mythic Essence, they can be considered one of the rarest skins in the game. As of right now, there are 74 Prestige skins in the game, with Prestige Battle Lion Leona being the latest release.
