Since his release, Ornn has been one of the strongest Top Laners in League of Legends. His ability to soak up pressure, start team fights, and, at times, solo-carry the game makes this demi-god a great champion.

Unlike most champions in League of Legends, who have a clear direction with their item builds, it isn’t always clear whether straight-up tanks are champions that deal AP or AD.

To answer the question, Ornn’s main abilities are AP, while his second and tertiary abilities are AD.

Living Forge (Passive): Gains 10% bonus armor and magic resistance from all sources. Attacks against enemies inflicted with Brittle will briefly knock them back, dealing extra damage. Also, he can craft items anywhere on the map.

Volcanic Rupture (Q): Ornn slams the ground, sending out a fissure dealing damage and slowing enemies hit. After a small delay, a magma pillar forms at the end location.

Bellows Breathe (W): Ornn advances, breathing fire. Enemies hit by the final gout of flame become Brittle.

Searing Charge (E): Ornn charges, dealing damage to enemies he passes through. If Ornn collides with terrain while charging, the impact creates a shockwave around him which deals damage and knocks up enemies.

Call of the Forge God (R): Summons a massive Elemental that knocks up and deals Magic Damage if it hits an enemy.

If you go through Ornns’ kit, you realize that two of his abilities deal Physical Damage, and two do Magic Damage. Ornn’s W and R abilities are what deal the most damage. Players looking to play Ornn should focus on leveling up W first, followed by E and Q as the game progresses. Sunfire Aegis is what you should build on Ornn as his first core item. Sunfire deals Magic Damage the second you begin taking or dealing damage. It is a must-have item on Ornn.

Ornn is a tank, and the goal when building Ornn is to be as beefy as possible to soak up pressure in team fights and be your team’s first line of engage/defense, depending on the situation.
