KT vs Gen.G: is a perfect split coming? – LCK Week 8 Preview
With Gen.G already qualified for Worlds, can they make it a perfect split with three matches to go? Let’s find out what are the odds in our weekly preview.
KT vs Gen.G – A dominant split so far
Gen.G not only secured its place at Worlds 2024 by qualifying for the LCK summer playoffs but they have also secured the first seed for the next stage of the split. This will give them a big advantage since they get a bye and will be able to choose their opponents.
With a 15-0 record, Gen.G’s only goal left in the regular split is the perfect split, which was first reached by T1 back in 2022 in the Spring Split. Despite everything going well, their next opponents are probably some of the worst to face: in order there is KT, NS, and HLE.
While the match against NS can be an easy one, the other two are a lot trickier. KT is known for being extremely volatile, for better and for worse. HLE, instead, is still looking to get revenge after the loss in the first round robin. With that in mind, let’s break down the series between Gen.G and KT.
Match breakdown
KT is currently sitting 7th in the standings and out of playoffs given their last loss against direct contenders KDF. Not only did the team lose but it was quite a clean series by the opponents, as KT threw away a major gold lead in Game 1.
Against a team like Gen.G who is known to be great at all stages of the game, KT’s current form won’t likely be enough to match them. You would need Cuzz and Deft to show up on the day while Bdd somehow manages to lane evenly with Chovy. The likelihood of all these factors aligning is extremely low. If somehow a miracle happens, Gen.G would still likely take the series in the end. And with one last week left, they will inevitably get closer to that perfect split.
