League of Legends SEA Tour 2018 Summer – Tournament overview

The SEA Tour 2018 Summer event is a new league that represents the South East Asia region. This league will be replacing the previous Garena Premier League.

Teams

There are a total of eight teams participating in this tournament, representing five regions. There are two teams representing; Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand, with one team coming from Indonesia and Singapore.

  • Thailand: MEGA
  • Indonesia: Bigetron E Sports
  • Singapore: Resurgance

Format

The eight teams will be split in two groups, with four in Group A, and the remaining four in Group B.
Group stage: It will be a double round robin best of one series, with the top two teams from each group heading into the semi-finals. Note, regarding Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand, their two teams will be separated into different groups.

Semi-finals: As usual, the top team in Group A will be matched against the second placed team in Group B, with the remaining two teams also being matched up.

Finals: The two winners of the semi-final match will go head to head against each other in the finals.

Prize pool

As one of the major league events, the prize pool for the SEA Tour 2018 Summer league has been set to an astounding $250,000 USD for this short seven day event. The champion team will also receive a direct qualification to the 2018 League of Legends World Championship ‘play in’ stage.

  • First: $100,000 USD + Worlds Play-in qualification
  • Second: $50,000 USD
  • Third / Fourth: $25,000 USD
  • Fifth / Sixth: $15,000 USD
  • Seventh / Eight: $10,000 USD

Favoured team

MEGA is the team most likely to take first in this league with their year’s performance being extremely successful. The team took second in both the Spring split and Spring Playoffs in the 2018 TPL, and first for the 2018 Asian Games Thailand Qualifier.
