South Korean Politician Calls on Riot & LCK to Protect Gumayusi From Death Threats
Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong’s departure from T1 has sparked immense fan backlash, resulting in various forms of harassment, including doxxing, billboard trucks circling T1’s headquarters and address, and genuine death threats.
T1 is the most successful and popular team in League of Legends, so it should come as no surprise that they have a passionate fan base. And, while most fans keep it civil and respect the privacy of players, there are those who overstep the line.
That already happened to T1 during Worlds 2025, with fans sneaking into private areas and taking photos without consent from the players.
However, things with T1 have deteriorated to the point that South Korean politician Jeon Yong-gi issued a lengthy message demanding action from governing bodies and Riot to help protect Gumayusi and the rest of T1 during this transition away from the team.

Politician Calls for Legal Action Against T1 Fan Group
Yong-gi specifically called out T1 Gall, a notoriously rabid fan group with a history of taking things too far with players.
“We express our deep regret for the behavior of some community users, including ‘T1 Support Gallery’, who have been cyber-bullying him for a long time, and urge for an immediate stop, “ Yong-gi said in a statement.
Gumayusi has had to endure various forms of harassment, with some on T1 gallery’s forums going as far as threatening acid attacks, allegedly stalking him and other team members, sending funeral wreaths to his place of work and personal address, and a lot more. This has been going on for months now, and only got worse after his departure.
Yong-gi called for action from bodies around the LCK to do a better job of protecting players and stepping in at times like this:
“Korea e-Sports Association (KeSPA), Riot Games Korea, and each club should no longer be spectators. Malicious slander and spreading false information against certain players is social violence. In order to protect the players, we need to step forward and take more protective measures.”
He also called on the government to create stricter laws against defamation and harassment online for the sake of not just Gumayusi, but all LCK players and esports competitors in general.
As Gumayusi begins a new chapter with the next team he’s playing on, likely to be Hanwha Life Esports, hopefully the league can find better and more effective ways to protect players and ensure their safety.
T1, Riot Korea, and KeSPA have yet to comment on Jeon Yong-gi’s statement at the time of writing.
