TES vs BLG – LPL Summer Playoffs Preview

Throughout the whole year, TES and BLG have been the strongest teams in the LPL. BLG looked more promising in the first part of the year but TES ended up winning the Esports World Cup last month and their recent form has been astonishing, to say the least.

In such a scenario, these two teams will now play against each other in the upper bracket of the LPL Summer Playoffs. Not only does the winner get a spot in the final but the first finalist will also secure a direct qualification to Worlds 2024 (at least #2 seed for championship points). With so much on the line, let’s check out who has the better odds of winning.

Series Breakdown

Between the two teams, I have been more impressed with TES’ trajectory in the past few months. Not only have they regained a good form by playing according to their team identity but it looks like the team has greatly evolved. The team is relying less on individual exploits and is looking much more composed with their macro play. In Bo5s this is a crucial element that cannot be discounted.

Moreover, jungler Tian has looked impressive throughout the entire summer split and he’s for sure the strongest jungler in the league. As long as he’s able to show up on the day, TES has all the right cards to defeat BLG.

Speaking of BLG, the team has had a few issues on the jungle position where Xun has looked a bit off. In the last series, Wei has stepped up and helped the team close out a dominating victory against WBG. We will have to see how he will match Tian but it will always be a tough matchup.

For the other roles, instead, I would say all are quite even so it will ultimately come down to draft preparation and how the two teams show up on the day. Based on the current form, however, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the two teams go at it until Silver Scrapes. If I were to name a winner, though, I think TES has reached a higher peak potential and this is why I think they will be the first LPL team to lock in their presence at Worlds.
