One For All – LoL Game Mode Explained

One For All is a limited-time game mode created by Riot Games and first introduced back in 2013. While it’s played on the same map as the traditional 5v5 game mode, the main difference is that all the players on the same team will play with the same champion. It was recently added once again last year for April’s Fools but it hasn’t returned since.

How champ select works in LoL One For All

Unlike the traditional draft mode you see in ranked (and normal) games, One For All has a Vote Pick. Payers will be first asked to ban a champion (they can also not ban). After that, each player will then vote for a champion of their choice that they want the whole team to play.

If all the players on a team or a strict majority of four players (prior to 2020, it was three) vote for the same champion, then that champion will get chosen and will be played by all players on that team. If no pick has a majority, then it will be randomly chosen based on the probability. This means that each champion chosen will get at least a 20% chance of getting through champion select.

What is so special about this game mode?

The great thing about playing the same five champions in the team is the ability to create great combos and see plays and actions that will never happen in the traditional 5v5 game mode.

For example, imagine having to play against 5 Lux players: you will have more than 10 skill shots being fired at you and it will be basically a dodging game, where you have to survive while also killing the enemies. Some champions have better synergies than others which makes the game more explosive and fun. Whether it’s applying crowd control chains or linking up effects, you will be able to witness unprecedented interactions.

While it’s not confirmed whether and when One for All will return, the fact that Riot Games has been looking to bring back other game modes such as Nexus Blitz might hint at a potential return for this one as well.
