What is League of Legends: Wild Rift?

Wild Rift is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), the mobile version of the popular League of Legends, a title that has been around since 2009. The game was initially released in late October 2020 but expanded to other regions at later dates.

As this is a League of Legends mobile game, LoL players will be familiar with the mechanics of Wild Rift. Two teams of five are pitted against each other, each player selecting a character to play as, also known as Champions.

The goal is to fight through the lanes against mobs and enemy Champions, until you reach and destroy the enemy’s base, called Nexus.

What Are Champions in Wild Rift?

Before every Wild Rift match, you will be asked to select your Champion. A Champion is the character that you’ll be controlling in your match. Each Champion has unique abilities and has a distinct playstyle from one another.

Champions are separated into their various roles. Marksman, for example, is a role for players who like to deal damage from a distance. They are often paired up with Support champions, whose job is to keep the ally carries safe, and to make strategic plays during the game.

Which Lane Should I Select in Wild Rift?

Just like in League of Legends, you should pick the position that suits your playstyle the most. Knowing which lane to select in Wild Rift depends on several factors, such as champion preference, team composition, map awareness etc.

There are 5 key positions in Wild Rift: Baron Lane, Jungle, Mid Lane, Dragon Lane, and Support. Get familiar with each of  the roles with our Wild Rift guide for beginners.

Baron Lane

Just like in League of Legends, The Baron Lane (Top) is one of the most isolated positions in Wild Rift. This is a position you will really get to understand playing around with timings and learning when is best to pick a fight with. This lane is where you will see the enemy jungler attack the most because the lane is the most isolated. This role suits you best if you want to play Bruisers, Tanks, and Fighters.

Jungle

The Jungle position is one of the more important positions in Wild Rift. You are tasked with earning gold not only through killing your Jungle camps but also by ganking enemy laners. A gank is a surprise attack on an enemy champion. Junglers most often execute ganks, but laners can also do a roaming gank. Junglers are tasked with helping the team secure neutral objectives such as Dragons and Barons. These monsters spawn at specific times and will give your team more power if taken down.

Mid Lane

Mid Lane is one of the harder roles to play in Wild Rift. Having a good Mid Laner often guarantees victory. With Mid Lane, you have to either be the main carry for your team, or make plays around the map and try to set your team up for success. This means picking strong teamfighting champions, as well as champions that are great roamers.

Dragon Lane

Dragon Lane is played as duo, Marksman (ADC) and Support. As mentioned above, Dragon Lane ADC Champions are one of, if not the main DPS for your team. The goal of the ADC is to put out as much damage as possible while not dying, which is difficult to do one Champions that are “squishy”. Squishy Champions are the ones that are very easy to kill, but they do lots of damage, essentially making them a “glass cannon”.

Support

The Support position rounds out this section of the Wild Rift beginner guide. Supports are the players who will enable their teammates to carry the game. They are tasked with protecting their team while assisting them at every stage of the game by providing the team with healing, shields, and vision.

How Do I Win A Game of Wild Rift?

To put it simply, the aim of the game is to destroy the enemy Nexus – a structure that is at the heart of the enemy’s base. Both teams have the same type of base, but the winner is the first team that destroys the opponent’s Nexus. That is the first way to win, the second is you dominating the enemy team so hard, they’re forced to surrender the game. After a certain amount of time, a player can initiate a surrender vote. If this vote is unanimous, the game will end.
