Overwatch 2’s Next Hero To Be Revealed At Owl 2022 Grand Final

Overwatch fans are set for a surprise new hero reveal. A teaser on the official Overwatch Twitter page hinted that there would be a glimpse of the next OW2 hero at the Overwatch League Grand Finals this weekend.

They haven’t dropped any more details of who this hero might be, or when exactly during the broadcast we can expect to see him. The new reveal takes place almost exactly a month after OW2’s somewhat buggy launch in the start of October.

And now there’s a month to go before Season 2 kicks off on December 6. Recently, game director Aaron Keller dropped a hint about the upcoming season, and its new hero, on an Overwatch League broadcast.

“It’s someone that players have seen before,” Keller said, according to a report by Dexerto. “And the other thing we’re putting out in Season 2 is a new map. And I think, the new hero, he’s connected to this map.”

Here’s what we can take from this: the tank hero already exists in the Overwatch universe, it’s going to be a male character, and he will be tied to a new map.

A New Battle Pass To Be Introduced With Season 2

Once the new season kicks off next month, unlocking the hero immediately will only be possible by buying the Season 2 Premium Pass which costs 1000 coins or $10. Otherwise, the hero will only be available upon hitting level 55 of the free Battle Pass, after which you’ll be able to play him in certain game modes like Competitive Play.

In addition to unlocking the new hero, the battle pass of the upcoming season will include a new mythic skin, with Blizzard planning on introducing a new one with every new season’s battle pass. Mythic skins, unlike legendary skins, can be customized by changing specific parts or its color scheme.

The Mythic rarity tier was added to Season 1’s Battle Pass, joining the previously featured Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary items. It featured 80 tiers of items and around 30 new skins, including one mythic, three epic, and five legendary skins. Blizzard also plans to introduce another 30 new skins with Season 2 of OW2, whose availability will be distributed between the in-game store, the OW2 battle pass, or seasonal events.

Season 2 will bring a new hero as well as a new map, but it won’t be this way much longer. For future seasons, Blizzard has confirmed that we’ll get a combination of a new hero, a new map, or a new mode but not all three together. They plan to introduce a new hero in every alternate season after this one. A new season will be released every nine weeks.

Since Overwatch 2’s launch in early October, there have been three new character releases. Sojourn the damage hero, and Junker Queen, arguably one of the most destructive tank heroes in the OW2 universe both made their playable debuts at OW2’s launch. Kiriko was also part of the game’s launch, but needed to be unlocked via the battle pass so not everybody was able to play her immediately. However, those who owned the original OW game could access her by redeeming their Founder’s Pack.

OW2 Had Its Share Of Launch Troubles

OW2 wasn’t exactly met with rave reviews. While users enjoyed the overall gameplay, few considered it to be a major improvement from the first game. There were complaints about the in-game matchmaking, and that there were no proper provisions in place to punish those who cheat or abandon the match mid-way. The competitive ranking system seems to be the biggest grouse so far, with most feeling that they had to spend far more hours playing than they would like in order to progress.

Many players also found the new cosmetics a lot more expensive than they needed to be. The pricing strategy of skins drew several complaints considering how individual ones cost nearly as much as Battle Passes for other titles.
