Overwatch Crowdfunding Coming to Boost OWCS DreamHack Dallas Prize
The Overwatch Champion Series is approaching its very first in-person event. This new open format for the League has been a fun change of pace so far, but its first big test will be at a climatic in-person tournament, in DreamHack Dallas. There’s already a decent prize pool up for the event. But it’s going to get bigger thanks to Overwatch crowdfunding being used.
A lot of games utilize crowdfunding to help flesh out their prize pools. It’s a way for fans to directly contribute to the scope of an esports finale. Most notably, Dota fans repeatedly pushed The International prize pool up to record heights. This is a rare case for this happening in Overwatch though. The game’s getting an exclusive skin which will contribute to the prize pool for the new OWSC tournament at DreamHack Dallas.
How will the crowdfunding work and how can fans get involved in everything?

Cosmetics are a bigger deal in Overwatch 2. There are the old rarest Overwatch skins, sure. But we’re not getting new skins all the time. A new look for Hanzo has something special about it though. The upcoming Azure Flame Hanzo skin will contribute some of its prize to the DreamHack Dallas prize pool.
The tournament has a standard prize pol which will now be the base. For every sale in the Azure Flame Crowdfunding bundle, they’ll add more to the prize pool. Blizzard is signing over 25% of the revenue of the bundle directly to the prize pool.
This will definitely help bump things up for the first major of the series. The schedule for the OWSC is a bit wider than what we used to see with the League. It’s already been running for a little while. However, it’s reaching its first big event here. It’ll be the first in-person event for this new form of Overwatch.
Hopefully, this Overwatch crowdfunding bundle will help make sure the prize pool is one to remember here. It’s the first part where we’ll see these new teams and icons in Overwatch esports competing on a grander scale.
