First Cross Regional Event for OWCS at DreamHack Dallas Concludes
This weekend we had a landmark event in Overwatch, the first cross-region event for the new format Overwatch Champion Series. This event saw a major switch over to an open format. We could have seen entire teams of unknowns rise up to make it into this final at the OWCS at DreamHack Dallas. As the first cross-regional finale though, this DreamHack tournament was an opportunity to see the top teams from across different regions playing all together.
The weekend saw big events for quite a few games, DreamHack tournaments are a representation of everything in esports. Now that the OWSC has become a part of it, these events will hold extra importance for Overwatch fans. OWCS at DreamHack Dallas was our first major. It was played with an upper and lower bracket before we saw a grand final of head-to-head matches. How did the OWCS DreamHack tournament go and which team came out ahead in the results?

OWCS DreamHack Dallas
The DreamHack Dallas Overwatch tournament saw quite a few teams move through from their regional events. Some of the biggest names in the Upper Bracket hailed from Asia. Crazy Raccoons had lived up to their name, with a crazy strong run through this Upper bracket. This culminated with a match against Team Falcons, for a spot in the Grand Final. They put in an incredibly strong performance though, just earning their spot in the endgame.
That sent them to the lower bracket, where Crazy Raccoon was up against Spacestation Gaming. It came down to a clash between the top-ranking teams in two of the regions here in the OWCS DreamHack Dallas event. Not as the climax to our tournament as a whole, but just to qualify for that Grand Finale. This event featured a boosted prize pool thanks to OW crowdfunding introduced for this major too.
Up against Team Falcons once again, it was all to play for in the Finale. We’d already seen this kind of match play out to get here. Raccoons got things off to a strong start winning Game 1, but went on to lose the next. It looked like we might just be trading wins back and forth until Crazy Raccoon won games 3 and 4 back-to-back. Team Falcon managed to win Game 5, but eventually, Game 6 went to Raccoon and sealed them as the OWCS DreamHack Dallas champions.

Tech Causes Huge Delays
That’s how our finals finally wrapped up, but the OWCS DreamHack Dallas event wasn’t without problems. On the first match of the bracket, we saw a major delay that left players standing around with very little to do. Team Falcons up against ENCE saw a pause happen thanks to tech problems. It managed to surpass the longest previous pause in an OW esports game, up and running for hours.
The tech delay was just a minor teething problem, but it got things off to an interesting start, to say the least. There are plenty more events coming in the Overwatch Champion Series for the rest of the year, hopefully, these early bugs have now been ironed out.
