How to evolve Cosmog in Pokémon GO
There are all sorts of Legendaries in Pokémon GO, but only a handful of them have some sort of evolution. It’s for this reason that trainers may need to know how to evolve Cosmog in Pokémon GO. Most Legendary Pokémon are not known to evolve to or from anything right now, so this is a very unique aspect of the game. For the most part, doing a raid for a Legendary will result in you owning that Pokémon, but not for anything involving Cosmog. Here’s what to do.
How to evolve Cosmog in Pokémon GO- Step-by-step guide
Currently, there is only one way to obtain Cosmog in Pokémon GO. Through a Special Research, trainers could get their hands on it, but only if they logged in at the right time. If you missed the tasks, there is no way for you to get Cosmog without trading with someone else. If you did get the research, then you’re able to get it and evolve it. The Special Research in question is called Cosmic Companion.

Cosmic Companion Research gives Cosmog
Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to get Cosmog in Pokémon GO. The first stage of the research, which is also the first of 12 stages, rewards it at the end. Do these tasks and receive these rewards and the Legendary Pokémon will be available:
- Catch 15 Pokémon (5 Razz Berries)
- Make 10 curveball throws (Staryu)
- Catch 15 psychic-type Pokémon (5 Pinap Berries)
You might be tempted to use a Pinap Berry to increase your candy and make the evolution easier. Ordinarily, that would be true. However, in this case, a later task gives enough candy to evolve it and there is not a second Pokémon at this point, so the candy is only useful to power up. To be able to evolve, though, you need those candies. They’re not available until Stage 4.
Here’s Stage 2:
- Give your buddy 3 treats (Woobat)
- Earn 10 candies walking with your buddy (Staryu)
- Catch 15 psychic-type Pokémon (Munna)
- Reward: 1 Poffin, 2,000 XP, 500 Stardust
Stage 3 looks like this:
- Earn 15 hearts with your buddy (Ralts)
- Send 10 gifts to friends (Staryu)
- Catch 20 different species of Pokémon (25 Poké Balls)
- Reward: 5 Pinap Berries, 3,000 XP, 1,000 Stardust
That will bring you to Stage 4, which only tasks you with catching one Pokémon. It will then grant you 25 candies and you can evolve the Pokémon. That’s a task in Stage 5:
- Complete 5 Field Research Tasks (Baltoy)
- Power up Pokémon 10 times (Staryu)
- Evolve a Cosmog (1,000 Stardust)
- Rewards: 25 Cosmog Candy, 1,000 XP, 750 Stardust
Now, you have successfully evolved your Cosmog into a Cosmoem. However, that’s not the end of the line for this ‘mon. Additionally, it’s far from the end of the Special Research.

- Stage 6
- Complete 10 Field Research Tasks (Elgyem)

- Stage 7
- Earn 15 hearts with your buddy (Kirlia)
- Hatch an egg (Staryu)

- Catch 3 Pokémon (789 XP)
- Stage 9
- Evolve a Cosmoem (Staryu)
- Reward: Starmie, 2,000 XP, 500 Stardust
- Evolve a Cosmoem (Staryu)

Cosmog evolves to Cosmoem, which then evolves into either Solgaleo or Lunala
- Stage 10
- Evolve 3 Pokémon (12 Nanab Berries)
- Walk 5 km (Staryu)
- Make 15 great throws (10 Pinap Berries)
- Reward: Solrock encounter, 4,000 XP, 1,000 Stardust
- Stage 11
- Evolve 3 Pokémon (12 Pinap Berries)
- Walk 5 km (Staryu)
- Make 15 nice curveball throws (10 Pinap Berries)
- Reward: Lunatone encounter, 4,000 XP, 1,000 Stardust
- Stage 12
- Earn 15 hearts with your buddy (Gardevoir)
- Catch 25 different species of Pokémon (Staryu)
- Earn 10,000 Stardust
- Reward: 1 Star Piece, 5,000 XP, 2,500 Stardust
Please bear in mind that the evolution you choose for Cosmoem, either Lunala or Solgaleo, is the only one you can get. Right now, trainers only have one Cosmog, which means there can only be one final evolution. To achieve Solgaloe, evolve it during the day. To get Lunala, do so at night. There’s a different button for each, so you won’t make a mistake. There’s no advantage to having one over the other per se and it does not matter for the research, so do whichever one you like best.
