How to get Leafeon in Pokémon GO – Everything You Need to Know
When it comes to completing the Pokédex, no Pokémon’s evolutions matter more than Eevee’s. With eight of them, it’s important to know how to get Leafeon in Pokémon GO, as well as Jolteon, Espeon, Sylveon and the rest. All Eeveelutions, as they are affectionately called by the community, have different unique methods.
The original three, Jolteon, Espeon and Flareon, are random evolutions in Pokémon GO. Pressing the evolve button has a one-in-three shot at giving the particular one. Sylveon requires a lot of hearts earned as a buddy and trainers have to walk with Espeon and Umbreon for 10 km before evolving. What do they need to do to get Leafeon?

How to get Leafeon in Pokémon GO
Unlike many Eeveelutions, Leafeon does not require trainers to select an Eevee to be their buddy. On the contrary, this evolution is much more straightforward- but it does have one requirement. In order to evolve to the Grass-type evolution, trainers need to be within range of a Pokéstop that has a Mossy Lure Module on it. If you happen to pass by a stop that someone else has lured up with the Mossy Module, then you’re fortunate and can just use that. However, this is a rare occurrence. Leafeon is much like Glaceon in this sense, which makes sense. The two were added to the Pokémon universe at the same time.
If not, you will have to do it on your own. Mossy Lure Modules have been rewards for various activities in the past, so you might actually have one waiting in your inventory. Check there before proceeding. If you have one, use it and you won’t have have to buy a new one. If you don’t have one already, head over to the Shop.

This is where you will find all lure modules of every kind. Each thematic lure is sold for 180 coins compared to the normal lure, which is sold for just 100. This includes Mossy, so hopefully, you have enough coins to purchase it. If you don’t have at least 180, check out this Pokemon GO coins guide to find out how to increase your total. Check your existing challenges to confirm there’s not one that rewards a Mossy Module before purchasing because that will also save you some coins.
Purchase it whenever possible or get the one from your inventory and find the nearest Pokéstop. Use the mossy lure on it by clicking the stop and selecting the plus on top of it. Choose the Mossy Lure Module from there, but be sure not to accidentally use any other lure. After, return to the Eevee you want to evolve. It may be worthwhile to check the IVs on each one so you have a strong Leafeon. If you want to get a shiny Leafeon, you will need to consider that as well.
If you have a shiny Eevee, which many trainers obtained thanks to a recent Spotlight Hour and a Community Day from 2021, you will need to choose which Eeveelution to make it into. Here’s what shiny Leafeon looks like:

Shiny Leafeon is on the left, while the normal shade is on the right
If you choose to make this one shiny, go ahead and evolve it within range of the lure module (the silhouette of Leafeon will show up on the evolve button). If you don’t want a shiny Leafeon, then pick out whichever normal Eevee you like best and evolve it from there. It requires 25 Eevee candies to do so.
Every so often, the Eeveelutions come around in raids. Right now, both Umbreon and Espeon are available. In the future, Leafeon might well be available in three-star raids, too. Keep an eye on the raid schedule to see if and when the Eeveelution is available and you can catch one that way and not have to go through any of the above steps.
Name trick for evolving Leafeon in Pokémon GO
The first time you evolve to a certain Eevee evolution, you can use the name trick. Every single evolution has a name that starts the evolution. For Leafeon, this is Linnea. Click on the pencil on your Eevee and change its name to that and it should allow you to evolve without having to do anything else. Again, check for the silhouette to ensure the right evolution
The rest of the Eeveelution names are:
- Pyro – Flareon
- Rainer – Vaporeon
- Sparky – Jolteon
- Kira – Sylveon
- Tamao – Umbreon
- Rea– Glaceon
- Espeon – Sakura
Unfortunately, this only works a single time per name. After a name has been used, you’ll have to do it the old-fashioned way. If you already have a Leafeon, chances are the name trick was used to get it. To check, try naming the Eevee and if the evolution silhouette changes from a question mark to something, then that name is valid. If it stays a question mark, then you can’t use the name.
