How to get revives in Pokémon GO
Given that they are one of the most important items in the entire game, knowing how to get revives in Pokémon GO is extremely important. If a Pokémon of yours faints, revives are needed to bring it back to life. This will restore half of its health, unless it is a max revive. However, those are pretty uncommon, so most players will look for revives. Just like in the mainline franchise games, revives are useful but not all that common. Here’s how you can get them in Niantic’s hit mobile game.
All methods of how to get revives in Pokémon GO
Revives are an item in Pokémon GO, so most methods of obtaining items are valid ways to get revives. If you’re in need of revives, look for a nearby Pokéstop. There’s a chance they will drop revives, especially if it’s your first spin of the day. Moreover, gyms offer revives. If you spin a gym, there’s an even better chance the item you are looking for here will drop. This is again especially true for your first spin and if it is your own team’s gym.

Revives are in your item bag
Every day, there is a free item box in the shop. This usually has just three items or so in it and they vary. Normally, it’s two Pokéballs and a Great Ball, for example. However, since it’s random, there’s always a chance the item box can have a revive in it. Do check daily to ensure you don’t miss out. You have to have enough Item Storage left for however many items are in the box in order to open it, though.
Gifts and more can give good items
Gifts from friends can give items, stardust and eggs. As a result, a revive is a possible reward from opening a gift. Open the gifts you have waiting to see if someone has sent one with a revive, although the rewards are mostly random. You have to have at least one item space available to get items from a gift, otherwise Pokémon GO will only grant you an egg (if you have space for that) and stardust.
Furthermore, research tasks can often award players for completion with a revive or two. Check Special Research tasks you haven’t completed as some of them may have revives as the reward. This is a good way of obtaining the item.
If an item balloon (small and purple) flies in on your screen, open it. There is a good chance it will have revives which come as part of some advertising promotion. Once again, you have to have item space to be able to open this gift.

Raids are the best way to get revives
The best way to obtain revives is through completion of raids. Ironically, this is how most of your Pokémon faint, which creates the need for revives in the first place. Alas, this is the cruel irony of the game. The stronger the raid, the more revives you’ll likely come away with. Unfortunately, that usually means more of your Pokémon have fainted. Generally speaking, you will get more revives than Pokémon that just fainted, so you’ll usually come out on top.
Even still, there is a tip to maximizing this. If it’s possible, switch your nearly fainted Pokémon to the next one in your party during raids. Continue this trend as much as possible until the raid boss is defeated. Then, you’ll earn revives but not have to use them. You will need a lot of potions, but that’s another issue entirely.
You can receive up to 12 revives in some raids, so be sure to have a lot of friends and a lot of strong Pokémon to ensure yours don’t faint as often. Revives can be purchased from the shop with Pokémon coins, which can be earned by protecting gyms. Leveling up almost always grants a lot of revives and max revives. From levels 5 through 40, once you hit a new level, you will be granted a ton of items and a lot of them are revives.
If you find yourself without revives and with no way to get them, there is a trick to not using revives. If you power up a fainted Pokémon once, it gains HP. As such, it usually goes from 0 HP to 2 HP, which is not fainted. From there, you’ll need stronger potions, but it does remove the need for a revive if you are in a bind.
