PUBG’s OG Map is Returning on May 14

KRAFTON has revealed in a blog post that Erangel Classic is coming back to PUBG on May 14. It’s dropping first on PC before arriving on consoles on May 23, and it’ll replace the current Erangel map – but it’s a limited-time offer. It’ll only be around on PC until May 28, and on console, it’ll be removed on June 6. This means dense fog and rain are returning, along with bench weapons, and a vintage UI that’s nothing short of a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

It’s not expected that this will have the same impact on PUBG that the Fortnite OG map had on that game, but it should bring at least a few players back. It’s a brief overhaul, though – KRAFTON has revealed that even in-game mechanics like weapon recoil have been reverted to give the game that classic, OG taste.

In the blog post released today, KRAFTON revealed:

We’re taking it back to where it all began–but with a few modern tweaks! Erangel Classic preserves the essence of the earlier version of Erangel, its distinctive appearance and atmosphere, all while delivering the enjoyable gameplay experiences that players have grown accustomed to.’

PUBG was released in 2017 and is often considered to be the founding father of the battle royale genre. It helped to spearhead the growth and popularity of the genre, and when the game went free-to-play in January 2022, it broke Steam player count records. Millions of users found their way back into PUBG, and it’s still quite popular today. Across PUBG and PUBG Mobile, there’s a vibrant and dedicated community, a thriving esports scene, and a solid batch of top-tier content creators and PUBG streamers.

Here’s the full list of changes coming to PUBG (temporarily) with Erengel Classic:

  • Vintage UI (world map and minimap)
  • Bench weapons and reduced recoil
  • Weather changes
  • Tommy Gun added to Care Package
  • Clothes and helmets added as ground loot

It’ll be interesting to see if the PUBG player count spikes when this update is released. Remember, it’ll drop first on PC on May 14, and then on consoles on May 23. That’s not too long to wait – are you going back to Erengel Classic?
