Cloud9 and beastcoast Partner Ahead of Esports World Cup

It has just been announced that Cloud9 and beastcoast have formed a partnership, linking their brands in the Rainbow Six space. At the tail end of May 2024, beastcoast stunned audiences by beating Team BDS in the grand final of the BLAST R6 Manchester Major, and now the team’s eyes are locked on the Esports World Cup. This collaboration will unite the branding of these two organisations, but fans are struggling to see the benefit of this partnership for Cloud9.

Before winning the Manchester Major, beastcoast was considered an underdog side in Rainbow Six Siege. The team had never lifted a trophy, and as this event unfolded, beastcoast revealed it had the chops to take on the biggest teams in the business.

Cloud9 left the Rainbow Six Siege esports scene in 2021 when it disbanded its team, which was made up exclusively of South Korean competitors. Since then, there has been no movement from Cloud9 in the R6 space – until now. Many have surmised that this move will give Cloud9 access to the Esports World Cup – specifically to the Club Program designed to reward organisations partnering with the EWC.

In May, it was announced that thirty teams had partnered with the EWC Foundation, soaking up various benefits for doing so. This prestigious list includes the likes of Team Liquid, OG, Guild, FaZe Clan, and of course, Cloud9. Organisations are now eager to earn as much as possible at the EWC through the Club Championship portion of the event. This is where the most successful teams at the EWC secure huge cash infusions simply for winning across more games.

That’s where this partnership between Cloud9 and beastcoast comes into play. As organisations attempt to earn points by winning in various esports games, they must cover as many bases as possible. To that end, Cloud9 has just secured joint ownership of a Major-winning Rainbow Six team, getting access to another game in the blink of an eye.

It’s well worth it, though. For the winner of the Club Championship, there’s a $7 million prize waiting to be scooped up. Even the bottom-placing team (16th place) will walk away with $150,000, which is more than the grand prize in many run-0f-the-mill esports tournaments. So, while it hasn’t been confirmed, that’s likely why Cloud9 has partnered with beastcoast.
