Rocket League 4v4 – Can You Still Play the Chaos Mode?

Rocket League 4v4 is an intense experience for players. There is a reason why 4v4 is called Chaos Mode; with more players on the field, there are more opportunities for destruction as cars are constantly crashing into each other.

Adding an extra player onto the field also means that you will have to fight harder to pick up boost, as the size of the field, and amount of boost pads does not increase for the 4v4 mode.

This makes it harder to pull off flashy solo plays, especially with an extra defender to get past.

Teamwork is key in Rocket League 4v4. So, make sure you grab some good teammates and get ready to start your engines.

Let’s take a look at how you can play Rocket League 4v4 in 2024.

One of the main limitations in Rocket League is that 3v3 is the maximum number of players that you can queue against in ranked. The Rocket League 4v4 playlist offered players a chance to add an extra member to their squad, and luckily there are still ways to play the Chaos Mode today.

Rocket League 4v4 is still available to play, however not to the same extent as 3v3, 2v2 or 1v1. Even though the 4v4 game mode was removed from the casual playlist, players can find and queue 4v4 Chaos mode in the Big Party playlist, which rotates weekly between 4v4 Chaos mode and Knockout. So if you are confused as to why you can’t find a 4v4 playlist, you will unfortunately have to wait until next week when it will be available again.

Sadly there is no ranked playlist available for 4v4, however this playlist still allows players to experience the chaos that comes with Rocket League 4v4.

Alternatively, players can create a private match and invite their friends to a 4v4 custom game. Custom games also give you the power to add custom mutators for a unique experience, such as rumble power ups, different shaped balls or different gravity settings, which will bring even more chaos to the gameplay.

Why did Rocket League Remove 4v4?

4v4 removed from casual

Even though this gamemode was enjoyed by many players, 4v4 Chaos mode was partially removed from the main casual playlist in November 2023, in an update which made major changes to playlists and the play menu. 4v4 Chaos was merged with Knockout, and evolved into a single Big Party playlist.

Whilst Psyonix did not release any statement to explain why 4v4 was being removed as a permanent game mode. We can guess that it was because it was the playlist with the lowest player population. The developers may have also felt that other game modes such as Spike Rush, Knockout and Heatseeker may attract more casual players and deserved to be introduced as semi-permanent game modes instead of being Limited Time Modes.
