Man, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and again: The best part about the FGC is the community. The Dragon Ball FighterZ Masters Showdown at Evo Japan was a special moment for fans, with two long-time rivals pulling off a choreographed clash.

Dominique “SonicFox” McLean and Goichi “Go1” Kishida are long-time rivals who have been trading KOs since 2018. The two top-tier players previously faced off in the Grand Finals of Evo 2018 and Evo 2019, but they haven’t competed against one another in FighterZ since.

To celebrate the Dragon Ball FighterZ community, the two pulled off a choreographed sequence on stage while both playing Base Vegeta. Getting the timing of all those attacks down was like watching a choreographed fight scene from a movie. The crowd couldn’t help but cheer.

“We wanted to leave the fans with one final special moment between us,” SonicFox tweeted.

Go1 replied: “You were the best and greatest competitor of my lifetime. It was an honor to play with you again. Thank you so much.”

After the choreographed start of the match, the two fought for real. The exciting battle resulted in Go1 winning 2-0. In the main FighterZ tournament, Go1 placed third and SonicFox in seventh.

Is SonicFox retiring from the FGC?

The sentimental tweet had some fans confused and concerned. Was SonicFox or Go1 leaving the pro fighting scene?

Neither player is retiring. However, they’ve both been stepping away from Dragon Ball FighterZ to compete in other titles. SonicFox recently returned to FighterZ after a break. Go1 has been competing in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, where he has become one of the best players in the world.

Allowing the two long-time rivals to pair up at the Masters Showdown allowed fans to see the top fighting game champions duke it out one last time as they move to other titles.

Said one fan: “Having been there to watch every match between you two over the years, this almost got me in tears. Thank you both for giving us all such an amazing story! Y’all are going in the history books!”

Added another: “One of, if not the best rivalries in the FGC. You’re both awesome for that. It’s been great to follow you through the years.”
