Riot Games to make infrastructural changes following VCT EMEA Stage 1 Tech Issues

According to the official update made by Riot Games earlier this morning, the tournament organizer will be bringing new equipment to the studio, swapping out the old PCs with the updated ones.

Several players, including Team Vitality player Derke, have voiced out their frustration last week after the tech issues during the match between Team Liquid and Karmine Corp led to the cancellation of the match day. According to the player, the hardware was not adequate to play the FPS game despite raising the issues several times over the past years.

“Our team has been working diligently since the postponed showday on Friday to resolve the on-site technical issues we have encountered during Stage 1. We are making infrastructural changes, swapping out the PCs on stage with updated PCs, with new equipment ordered that is either already at, or en route to the studio for testing,” said the VCT EMEA team in the blog update.

Playtests will be made internally and with pros

The two shipments, one from the US and one from EU, are set to arrive at the studio by the end of the day, with playtests taking place in the next two days.

Initially, there will be an internal Riot playtest, and then selected VCT pros will do a stress test, which is scheduled on April 30, to provide more feedback and adjustments. The game server will also be monitored for any abnormalities with the new PCs in the studio.

If the schedule is respected, Riot stated offline matches are set to resume later this week, with a live audience attending for playoff matches starting on May 8.

“We understand that at this point it’s on us to take action and deliver successful results. With updated PCs and a deep look at our infrastructure during the dark days, we will get the competition back on track,” said Riot.

Fans getting refunded for postponed match day

Fans who were affected by the canceled show day will receive a full refund as well as additional compensation, including:

One of the affected fans publicly thanked Riot on X: “Thanks for taking this seriously and compensating the fans who were there on that day. I hope VCT EMEA improves from this point on. I love going to the arena to support my teams, after what happened, I lost a bit of faith; this restores it a bit, at least.”
