Obviously just because you can’t log in, doesn’t mean that the Destiny 2 servers are down. It might just mean that you’re having connection issues. Check to see if your system or game needs an update.
On Windows, you can search for an update, or if you have a prompt in your notification bar to update, that may solve some connectivity issues. Also, try to practice healthy gaming, and turn your PC off every once in a while.
Through Steam, you can also attempt to update the game, or uninstall and reinstall. Or you can attempt to validate your files to see if that was a reason for failed connection. For console players, the last is likely your best bet to try if the Destiny 2 servers are up and you can’t connect.

The official Destiny 2 X/Twitter will have updates on whether the server is down or experiencing issues. Additionally, during maintenance times, if you log into the game, it will often have a banner to let you know expected maintenance windows. If you try to log in during these times, you will get an error message that lets you know the game is unavailable for that period.
This is the most surefire way to know that the servers are down for planned reasons. However if there’s no official word, the best way to know is to see what the majority of the Destiny 2 player count are saying.
