How to Cure Zombie Villagers in Minecraft
A zombie villager is a special type of hostile mob in Minecraft, usually generated when a zombie kills a regular villager. These mobs can also naturally generate in zombie villages, as well as spawning inside igloo basements.
Zombie villagers are special because they can be cured and returned to their former state where they keep all their professions and also offer a permanent discount on their professions. You can keep all the cured villagers inside your village, which can be a lucrative strategy, but does require quite a bit of work to pull off.
Today we’ll share with you how to cure zombie villagers in Minecraft and guide you through all the necessary steps.
How to Cure a Zombie Villager?
Zombie villagers can be cured in several different ways:
- Splash Potion of Weakness
- Lingering Potion of Weakness
- Arrow of Weakness
- Using a Witch
All of the above mentioned methods will work, although some will be more difficult than others. Generally, the preferred method will be using the Potion of Weakness or Arrow of Weakness, but if you really can’t get your hands on those, you can try getting a Witch to do it for you.

Splash Potion of Weakness & Lingering Potion of Weakness
To craft a Splash Potion of Weakness and a Lingering Potion of Weakness, you’ll first need to gather some necessary materials. These materials include:
- Fermented spider eye
- 1 to 3 water bottles
- Blaze powder
- Gunpowder
- Dragon’s Breath (only for Lingering Potion of Weakness)
Before you proceed to brew your potions, you must craft your Brewing Stand by combining a Blaze Rod with 3 Cobblestone at the Crafting Table.
Arrow of Weakness
The one benefit of using an Arrow of Weakness instead of the Splash Potion of Weakness is the fact players won’t risk splashing themselves in the curing process.
To create an arrow of weakness, players must combine the Lingering Potion of Weakness with arrows at the Crafting Table, or by filling a Cauldron with the Potion of Weakness and then using arrows on it. Both methods work perfectly.
Obtaining a Golden Apple
The key part of curing a zombie villager is feeding them a Golden Apple. You can only feed the zombie villager an apple once they’re in a weakened state, which is where the potions and arrows come into play.
There are several ways of obtaining a regular Golden Apple, which we’ll list down below:
- Crafting by using 8x gold ingots and an apple
- Obtaining from chests from random locations around the world

Get Ready to Cure Your First Zombie Villager
Now that you have all the required materials, it’s time to face your first zombie villager and attempt to cure it.
- Make sure you equip your strongest armor and put on a shield for extra defense. Zombie villagers can easily overwhelm and kill your character if you’re not careful. Also, try not to use your most powerful bow when shooting the arrow, just in case you accidentally kill the zombie villager before curing it.
- Another thing you should keep in mind are the other surrounding zombie villagers when attempting to cure one. You should isolate the zombie villager you’re about to cure. This way the other zombie villagers can’t get to him and turn him back into a zombie, essentially making all your hard work go to waste.
The Fight Begins
Engage the zombie villager and toss your Splash Potion of Weakness or fire an Arrow of Weakness at the zombie. The zombie villager will get a weakness debuff, after which you immediately use your Golden Apple on it. Simply press the use key while facing the zombie villager.
Once that’s done, the zombie will begin shaking, which is an indicator that the curing process has begun. Wait a couple of minutes and the zombie villager should turn into a regular villager.
Congratulations, you’ve successfully cured your first zombie villager!
