Steam Server Status | Are Steam Servers Down?

Need to know the current Steam server status? Steam has a bad habit of getting stuck in an update loop where the service refuses to load. Is that because the servers are down or is it something else?

Valve updates servers regularly for maintenance, often between 6pm and 9pm on a Tuesday. During this time window, you’ll be prevented from being able to log into any game, especially Valve games.

If you’re experiencing connection issues or downtime, it’s always best to check Steam’s support page for possible fixes, if the problem is you.

Is Steam down or is it me?

Obviously just because you can’t log in doesn’t mean that the Steam’s servers are down. It might just mean that you’re having connection issues.

If you’re stuck in a loop of Steam refusing to open because it’s “updating”, first try running the Steam application as an administrator, which can sometimes help force the update if its refusing to update and get you in. You can also attempt to uninstall and reinstall Steam through the website if the issue is a lack of updates. Once you get in though, and if you’re outside the regular maintenance window, then there might be outages with Steam if you’re still having problems.

How to check steam server status?

The official Steam Twitter/X will have updates on whether the server is down or experiencing issues. Even if Steam servers are up, that doesn’t mean every game you try to play will be available to play. Other game developers not using Steam for networking, can have their own server outages. So you may need to look into the developer social media if there’s any server outages on their end.
