AA in LoL – What Does it Stand For?

Most champions use their abilities as a source of damage, while others rely on “AA”, traditionally ranged champions such as ADCs, but what does AA mean in LoL?

What Does AA Stand For in LoL?

AA in League of Legends stands for Auto Attack. This is the basic attack that every champion will do.

The player orders their champion to perform a basic attack on an enemy or minion by right-clicking the target, or using the attack-move command (default A + left-click).

Idle champions might chase and attack the target that passes close in their range, if the auto-attack option is enabled.

Melee vs. Ranged AA

For example, a melee champion like Darius (Bruiser) will auto-attack an enemy with his axe, while Caitlyn (ADC) uses a ranged Auto Attack with her gun. Each champion in the game has a different Auto Attack from one another. Darius, for example, will apply his bleed passive (Hemorrhage) to an enemy he auto attacks, while Caitlyn deals extra damage with every 5th shot.

The more attack-speed you have, the shorter the time between auto-attacks. And the more damage you’ll do.

Each champion also has an auto attack range, determining how far you can hit a target with your Auto Attack. For example, ADCs will have a further Auto Attack range as they can hit targets from far away, meanwhile Melee champions can only hit enemies that are extremely close to them.

To work out your champions Auto Attack range, press the A button, this will bring up a circle which shows you the Auto Attack range. This is extremely helpful for ADCs who are trying to finish off a kill and need to see if they are in range to do so. Also, learning how to peel in LoL is a great way to spice up your AA game.

Who has the longest AA in LoL? It’s no surprise that Caitlyn is at the top of the list. She is the best champion at long-range poke in League of Legends and can safely farm without the threat of being killed.

Surprisingly, Annie has the second-longest AA range in LoL, at 625.
