IEM Dallas 2023 Format, Teams & Favorites
16 teams qualified for IEM Dallas through a variety of means. Six teams (Complexity, ENCE, FURIA, G2, Heroic, and Liquid) qualified as ESL Partner Teams, a system which the shocking BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 results has since seen criticised. Evil Geniuses received a Local Hero Invite, while FaZe and MOUZ arrive as a result of their ESL World Ranking. Only Astralis, Cloud9, OG, Fnatic, Nouns, 9z and Grayhound qualified as a result of their Qualifier performances.
The 16 teams are divided into Groups A and B to begin with and play out double-elimination format (GSL) groups.
- Eight teams feature in each group
- Opening matches are best-of-1, and all other matches are best-of-3, including the Grand Final
- Top three teams in Group A and B advance to the Playoffs:
- #1 seeds move directly to Semi-Finals
- #2 seeds move to Quarter-Finals as Top Seeds
- #3 seeds move to Quarter-Finals as Low Seeds
- All Playoff Matches are Single Elimination
Teams & Favorites
With CS2 just around the corner, the door is closing on CS:GO tournaments. This means that we’re into the final opportunities to leave a mark in the game, and we’re sure to see some intense Counter-Strike as a result, even as soon as the Group Stage.

Group A
Looking at Group A, it’s tough to see anyone but Heroic as the favorites to progress here. The Danes may not have got their Major recently, but they remain a mentally strong team, and their IEM Rio 2023 performance showed they have what it takes to go far in these tournaments. Expect G2 to put up a challenge, but their struggles at the Paris Major mean we can’t put them down as favorites here.
It will be very interesting to see how Fnatic perform at IEM Dallas 2023. Having arrived in the competition as a result of Virtus.pro’s visa issues, they haven’t had long to prepare. And with KRIMZ missing, the legendary f0rest will be standing in for Fnatic, making the prospect even more intriguing. They face MOUZ in the opener, and if they can get off to a strong start, they’re definitely one to watch at this CS:GO tournament.
We’d keep an eye on OG here too. They haven’t looked great as of late, but right now they have regali standing in for degster. In early matches with this setup, he’s looked incredible, instantly coming in as one of the better players on the team. If he can hit form, they can definitely make it to the playoffs.

Group B
Our favorites in this group are Cloud9, who after missing the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, are on a mission to reaffirm their position at the top of the game. They’ve had plenty of time to prepare and reflect, and can come in as one of the strongest CS:GO teams in the entire tournament.
Astralis are a curious case at IEM Dallas 2023. After dropping Xyp9x and replacing him with Altekz, the team have looked great in Tier 2 competition. Even gla1ve has had a resurgence, as they’ve ground out smaller CS:GO tournaments. If they can maintain this form against better teams, expect to see Astralis challenge in Group B.
Finally, there’s Liquid. Their disappointing Major performance is now behind them, and players like EliGE and nitr0 will see it as one to forget. However, with NAF and YEKINDAR in brilliant form, there’s always a chance that they can make it out of the Group Stage. An opener against Astralis will reignite one of the great CS:GO esports rivalries, so it won’t be easy. But when Liquid are having a good day, they can beat anyone.
Group B
- FaZe Clan
- Evil Geniuses
- ENCE
- Complexity
- Liquid
- Astralis
- Cloud9
- Grayhound
