The PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2024 is set to happen from Oct. 31 to Dec. 8 as 49 teams from around the world compete for the title of champions and a share of the $3 million prize pool. Here’s everything you need to know about the tournament.

The PMGC 2024, the last stage of the 2024 esports roadmap, is happening across the league stage and the grand finals. The league stage is set to return to Southeast Asia, happening in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Grand Finals, on the other hand, will happen in London, the UK for the first time. Through this, the game will be able to touch Western audiences, especially since it’s more popular in regions like SEA with a tournament time zone that more aligns with them.

PMGC 2024 Format: League Stage and Grand Finals explained

The PMGC 2024 begins with the League Stage from Oct. 31 to Nov. 24, which is further split into three stages:

  • Group Stage: Oct. 31 to Nov. 17
  • Survival Stage: Nov. 20 to 22
  • Last Change: Nov. 23 and 24

Finally, the PMGC 2024 Grand Finals will happen from Dec. 6 to 8.

League Stage

  • Group Stage: The 48 teams will be split into three groups of 16 teams each. Every group will compete across 24 matches. The top 3 teams from each group will advance to the Grand Finals while the 4th and 11th place will make it to the Survival Stage. The remaining teams will be eliminated.
  • Survival Stage: Here, the 24 teams will be divided into three even groups with two groups competing at a time. Each group will play six matches with the top 16 making it to the Last Chance.
  • Last Chance: In the PMGC 2024 Last Chance Qualifier, the 16 teams will battle it out across 12 matches for the last six slots to the Grand Finals.

  • The nine teams from the group stage and six teams from the Last Chance Qualifier will join the host region-invited team, Guild Esports, in the PMGC 2024 Grand Finals.
  • Taking place across three days, each day will feature six games for a total of 18 matches.

Points Distribution

The PMGC 2024 will be played on the new points distribution which prioritizes getting the chicken dinner as well as getting the most kills. This ensures that the games remain exciting throughout and gives more incentives for teams to be aggressive.

PMGC 2023 Format features League Stage and Grand Finals

Tencent has split the PMGC into a League Stage and the Grand Finals.

League Stage

Group Stage

  • In the group stage, the 48 teams will be split evenly into three groups of 16 teams each.
  • Each group will compete separately and will play 24 matches across four days (six per day).
  • The top three teams of each group will make it to the Grand Finals while the bottom five will be knocked out of the PMGC 2023.
  • The remaining teams placed 4th to 11th in each group will advance to the Survival Stage.

Survival Stage

  • The 24 teams from the Group Stage will be split into three groups.
  • They will compete in a round-robin format with each team playing a total of 12 matches.
  • After an intense round of action in the PMGC 2023, the top 16 teams will make it to the Last Chance Qualifier. The remaining teams will be eliminated.

Last Chance

  • As the name suggests, this will be the final stage for the teams to qualify for the PMGC 2023 Grand Finals.
  • The 16 teams will play 12 matches across two days.
  • Only the top five teams, though, will make it to the Grand Finals.

The nine teams from the Group Stage along with the five teams of the Last Chance Qualifier will meet the two invited teams in the Grand Finals. These are S2G Esports, who have secured a direct invite as the host country. This is because the PMGC 2023 Grand Finals will happen at the Ulker Sports and Event Hall in Istanbul, Turkey.

The other team are the Chinese champions, Titan Esports Club.

These 16 teams will battle it out across 18 matches to determine the champions.
