ALGS Championship keeps facing player absences due to visa issues

The Apex Legends Global Series Championship unfortunately saw the absence of some key players. This setback, attributed to visa issues, has been a recurring theme throughout the competitive year.

What can Respawn do about this issue next season?

Player attendance issues in Apex Legends is a recurring theme

Alliance’s Miron “Effect” Novikov didn’t attend, and in his stead, Mikkel “Mande” Hestbek stepped in. Aurora, on the other hand, missed Kiryl “9impulse” Kostsiu and Lev “taskmast33r” Grigoriev. The only Aurora player who secured his visa in time is Syvatoslav “ojrein” Korochinsky. Filling in for the absentees were Jose “Uxako” Llosa from Entropiq and Keenan “Tax” Mackey from Myztro Gaming.

This wasn’t the first instance of such visa-related issues. The Split One Playoffs in February had similar challenges, with six teams grappling with roster complications. Alliance managed to navigate through the challenges, having previously played with Mande in lieu of Effect. Aurora’s journey was more tumultuous, with visa issues forcing them to withdraw from the event.

Both teams indicated that if the missing players manage to secure their visas during the Championship, they can rejoin the starting roster, but its getting hard to repeat the same sentiment over and over.

What can be done?

Moving forward, there needs to be a more robust system or direct assistance from Respawn in the handling of visas or invites. We simply cannot have players missing out on events every few months due to simple passport issues.

I hope it all improves next season.
