Battlefield REDSEC Open Series Delayed to 2026 Right Before Elite Series Launch

Battlefield’s big competitive rollout is hitting its first bump, as EA has confirmed the REDSEC Open Series will no longer debut this year. Instead, the amateur-focused competition has been pushed into 2026 due to an in-game issue.

The Open Series delay is pretty significant, as EA had clearly defined Battlefield’s new ecosystem as a two-tier structure: the Elite Series for the world’s top competitors, and the Open Series for aspiring players looking to rise through the ranks. Both were originally intended to launch in tandem, but EA has stated that an unexpected technical problem forced the change.

EA Statement on Battlefield REDSEC Open Series Delay

“While it was our intent to launch both our Elite and Open Series close together, we’ve identified an in-game issue specific to Open Series competition that requires us to push the Open Series start date to next year,” the publisher announced. “We know this may be disappointing news for participants and fans. However, this extra time will allow us to resolve issues and create a smoother experience.”

They added that there will be updates in the new year, but did not expand on what the in-game issue is.

It’s a disappointing update for players who were gearing up for Battlefield’s first structured amateur circuit in years. Battlefield has never had a stable esports circuit, and the Open Series was set to be a major step toward addressing this.

Is REDSEC Elite Series Affected?

EA is still pushing ahead with the flagship REDSEC Elite Series as planned, with 600 of the world’s best players competing across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC. The Elite Series launches December 10.

While the Open Series delay will frustrate many, the Elite Series will be a good insight into what Battlefield REDSEC esports looks like and its viability as a long-term competitive title.

Hopefully, the Open Series can proceed without any further hitches moving forward, allowing the ecosystem to start building up unknown players.
